has just gotten better. I asked a few months ago for php support and line numbers and they've delivered. This is the easiest, simplest and lightest editor and is perfect for web development. Cheap at ten times the price :-) -

This program is so good, I can't believe it's freely available. It reminds me of early versions of HotDog on PC format. -
"Blows BBEdit Lite away."
Version: Taco HTML Edit 1.5.1
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Taco blows the crippled and unsupported BBEdit Lite away. It's very easy to use, and makes hand coding HTML much faster, though I suspect I'm underutilizing some features. Suggestions:- Make it less HTML-centric. I'd like to use it for basic text editing, but when I open a new document I have to delete the default basic tags (HTML, BODY, etc) first.
- Make cursor scrolling smoother. Scrolling is great with a scroll wheel, but it's a little jumpy when just cursoring down.
- I really like the fact that forces me to straighten out UTF8 characters by not allowing me to save such docs in HTML format. However, usually the UTF8 characters are ones that were in text that I copied into my document from another source, and I would like to retain those in my HTML document as HTML code. It can be laborious to manually seek out all UTF8 characters to fix them. Therefore, a feature that will automatically seek out UTF8 characters and convert them to their HTML counterparts would be very powerful. (e.g. convert the "â?¢" character to & trade;)
Thanks for making a great program free! I hope it substantally benefits the author's chosen charity.

"Wow!"

I was considering buying Web Design because it has drag and drop tag management, but Taco has a way better preview feature, and it's free.
As for it not supporting creating embedding media links, just create a new clip once and you're set. A very nice application that just saved me $30. And a lot of time. -

Best HTML editor I ever used (quite a few!) and it's free. Congrats to the developer! -
"What a great app."
Version: Taco HTML Edit 1.5.0
Summary

I was looking at a simple text based HTML editor and tried bbedit (pricey) as well as HTML creator and page spinner. This app beats them all for value (it is free!) while giving 90%+ of what I need. The only gripe I have is embedding media. Otherwise really good. -
"impressive..."

Summary

In my last review (1.2.0) I gave this thing five stars and said that it was only missing three things: constant file structure display, special character tool, HTML documentation. Then the other day I thought HyperEdit's live preview pane is cool.
Now, Taco has "Project" and the "Quick Insert Menu" includes special characters and uses the Safari engine for live preview - so all my wishes are covered. Only thing missing is HTML documentation: For example it would be nice, when selecting tags in "Advanced Tag insert..." to see in another field a short description of how that tag works.
But even without that, I think Taco is the ideal non-graphic HTML editing tool for beginners and occassional and regular HTML users, who don't want to pay for BBEdit (I never paid for it, never used it, so I cannot compare review here) or even Golive. Although, Taco is non-graphic, I thought it easy enough to use with my humble HTML knowledge to abandon my wishes for a graphical editor for now (for which you need HTML knowledge in the end, anyway). -
"Actually BBEdit is a nice compliment to this."

I use Taco HTML Edit as the primary tool but often do editing with BBEdit 7. Why? I dunno, just seems easier that way. :) Nice upgrade. Have played with it a little. Just keeps getting better. Many thanks! -
"I'd even pay for it. 'Nuff said."

I started using Taco Edit when it was first released, and I've been quite impressed all along. It does all I need w/o the (unreal!) cost of bbedit. (Not that bbedit is a bad product, it's just a tad overpriced for my needs.)
For simple and quick text and HTML editing, Taco just rocks. Period.
