"Turns my PS3 into a DVR for my TV"

    July 18, 2010  |   By thunderstruck560

Converts media Like AVI files into files that are playable on your PS3
Wireless streaming to any device to share content.
    Easy to organize.

Can use up a lot of disc cache space for converted files
The created media server can't be encrypted (that I know of)

For a long time I had thought about getting a Apple TV to play videos on my TV that I had bought from iTunes or downloaded from Amazons Unbox. I had a whole hard drive full of movies and TV shows either in AVI or MP4 format and they would not register with the normal media sharing applications on the PS3. Tversity not only creates a media server to share files with other things (like a PS3) but it also encodes and streams these files without having to convert file formats. Converting file formats is a pain in the ass, but Tversity does it automatically and takes a lot of the guesswork out of it. But my only real complaint about the media servers that tversity creates is that as far as I've been able to tell, there is no option to encrypt your media files or set up a password in order to view the files on the network. What you can do is specifiy what kind of devices can communicate with the network, but i would like to see some options for encryption in further interations.
