"A sleek and simple program"
Version: TOCR Viewer 3.0
Pros
Easy to install and easy to use.
Cons
The program only accepts *.tif, *.tiff, *.bmp, *.dib.
Summary
Of course, this program is not as good as ABBYY FineReader.
On the other hand, it creates far from all the problems that ABBYY FineReader does. E.g., a simple registry cleaning can make the entire installation of FineReader useless. FineReader is a mammoth program and hard to manage.
TOCR does not have any of these negative effects and it makes a pretty good job. -
"ocr software that isn't worth downloading"
Version: TOCR Viewer 3.0
Pros
has the ability to recognize characters in images...soft of
it is pretty fastCons
it only accepts a few formats like TIFF, BMP, DIB
it also does a really really bad job in interpreting informationSummary
if you want software that can turn images into text, this theoretically should do it but in reality it does a bad job and simply can't convert your handwriting into text (or anything else) If you are lucky it may get a few words right but those are very rare cases.
Also converting images just so you can use this lousy software isn't worth it either, and if you don't have an image editor then you would also need that to get any functionality
all in all don't download and heaven forbid you should buy the full version, it would be a huge waste of time and money.
Please don't make the same mistake that I did by downloading this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
"A quite good OCR program"
Version: TOCR Viewer 2
Pros
Works quite well, even with Swedish texts.
Formats *.Txt files neat. Actually better than FineReader.Cons
The program inserts quite a lot of unnecessary space here and there.
Some missing items e.g Direkttelefon -> DirektteleferiSummary
From OCR point of view, FineReader makes a better job.
From a formatting point of view, TOCR makes a clearly better job. -
"what, are you kidding?"
Version: TOCR Viewer 2
Pros
It's accurate for a scanner, but useless for cameras
Cons
no TWAIN interface? You mean I have to save from another program with a TWAIN interface, then run TOCR to open the saved image? No PDF, no HTML output? No spell checker for error correction? No Image processing filters?

"OMG!"
Version: TOCR Viewer 2
Pros
I've just spent 4 days trying out all kinds of OCR software that would allow me to process a heap of forms... I honestly had small hope for this simple program but it got it COMPLETELY right the first time. Amazing.
Cons
Well its simple, no automation I can see (given the limited options a command line option would do), very limited formats for input and output.

"Works great!!"
Version: TOCR Viewer 2
Pros
Whow, this works great!! Recognized at least 99% of my test pic :-))) (old german newspaper-scan on win98se) It's also very easy to use, with a clean and simple interface.
The layout of the test-window first needs some getting used to, but there's an option to turn "format" off, then it's all one long column, and there are a couple more options to play around with.
It also starts up real fast on my old machine.
The trial version allows 100 A4-pages, but it seems the counter only runs when the "save"-button is pressed. Copy and paste from the text-window also seems to work. But 100 pages is a lot, if someone needs it as rarely as I, so no prob.
But most of all, the recognition works just fantastic, yes!! :-))

"Great OCR tool for all uses"
Version: TOCR Viewer 2
Pros
Has the functionlity you need without having loads of features you never use but have to pay for. It seems to be as accurate as they say. I had no errors at all. It's saved me a lot of time in my work. Highly recommended.
