"Flexible conversion but capricious behavior"

Pros
Allows much manipulation from input to output, such as color correction, frame clipping, forced audio for flexibility in making DVDs, source format specification (useful with ineptly made source files), good batch mode.
Cons
Hit or miss "unsupported format" errors that have nothing to do with installed codecs (as rendering is OK through graphedit, etc). Lack of control and information over codec selection makes this problem essentially insurmountable in many cases.
Summary
I use this program all the time for converting to a format usable in a DVD, but I feel I am constantly fighting its strange and annoying behavior. The other converters I have looked at don't offer the flexibility of this program in processing the source video however, so I stick with it.
Interface can be annoying in its declining to remember things like file sort and display preferences. -

unfortunately i need ALL vids as AVI XVID to play on player
but if i used MPG this is way to go
i DO sometimes convert things to mpg cut/join then convert bak to avi -

No need to install (unzip and run), Runs smooth and fast, Dependable I've been using for 3 years on XP and the new release on Vista for 5 months with no problems, Clips video as well.
Cons
Needs to be able to handle more file types.

I use this more than any other video editing freeware. Worth the download for sure!

very very slow program. takes 2 1/2 hrs. to convert 1 1/2 hrs. of video. if you've got hours to waste, it might be an ok program.
