"Best HIPS I tried"

Pros
This HIPS is really awesome, I had ProcessGuard free edition before but I wanted some other program that blocked global hooks so I started to google for one and found this.
It protects against unknown processes and asks if a program/dll tries to hook you're keyboard or mouse. Runs fine on my computer and I use several other programs at once.
Remember to use it with an Anti-Virus.
Cons
None so far, maybe bit hard for beginners, but you'll learn it fast.

It has a lot of features compared to some commercial HIPS, process termination, global hook control, outbound network control, service control...
Cons
A beginner may have troubles with SSM if learning mode is unchecked as it asks the user a lot whether to run this program, to allow this program to hook on this DLL. May prevent some programs to update (I suggest turning it off before updating programs). Can slow down some versions of XP (Tested with my friend's XP vs mine).

Pros
System Safety Monitor or SSM is one of the best security software on the market. As you already know it is a HIPS program. What you probably don't know is that it has a surprisingly proactive and fast support, what I think is a must for security applications. Its capabilities are improving day by day and it has a huge configuration abilities to suit users needs or preferences. What I think is very important too is that in fact SSM is a Multilanguage application covering Portuguese (Brazil), English, German, Russian, Japanese, Chinese and many others. It has a FREE (Really FREE) and PAID (very reasonable price) versions so money will not be an issue.
Cons
I think any software that goes to HIPS approach is a little hard to get used to, but don't let it frighten you. This software is very informative in its reports, so it should help you too. And it has also a Learning Mode to help finding and setting things up.

I appreciate how the function works, just put you to the top preventing lots of malicious software
nowadays.

Read the help files and the tutorial and set it to learning mode, then started opening apps...
Cons
...asked about some apps but not all ...prevented some updates ...checked logs(enabled) and nothing was there ...didn't get to find the problem as this slowed down my pc and used so much ram I just uninstalled! I find PrevX more user-friendly and ProcessGuard easier on system resources!!! No uninstaller, so that's two strikes!!!
