Editors' Review

System Mechanic is a full-featured system maintenance program for your computer that fixes problems and keeps things running smoothly. Through this app, you can analyze your system, identify areas for improvement, and fix errors, all with just a few clicks of the mouse.

Analyze and repair: As soon as you open System Mechanic, you can begin to analyze and repair issues that could be slowing down your computer. Once the initial scan is complete, the program displays a summary of issues detected. It also warns you if you don't have malware protection installed and recommends startup programs that could be eliminated.

Optimization: In addition to managing your hard drive, this app can also optimize your Internet configuration to maximize browsing speed. This can vastly improve your browsing experience and generally increase your productivity and effectiveness.

A little slow: Scans and repairs were completed a little slowly compared to other similar programs. But both were completed thoroughly and successfully, and wait times weren't inconveniently long.

Awkward navigation: The interface offers somewhat awkward navigation, with what seem like extra steps to move from one window to another. But once you get used to the setup, you'll find your way around without too much trouble.

Bottom Line

This is a good, free program for keeping your system running smoothly and for identifying and removing threats to your computer. If you'd like to unlock some of the more advanced features, you can pay for and upgrade to the full version for $49.95. But for users of most experience levels, the free version will work just fine.

"Rel 14 is not a version you wan to use"

 |  Version: System Mechanic

I have had good results with previous versions of System Mechanic but since I installed Rel 14 it has been a disaster.

After installing Rel 14 I can no longer run the program. It fails with a program error and will not boot. I have been six weeks now talking with the Iolo Tech support with absolutely no results. Tech Support & Customer Service have the same message - They have passed the problem to the System Developers and when they have a fix I would be notified.
I have been using System Mechanic for several years with good results but the response of the Iolo company to the program error on a scale of 0 to 10 is -30.
I asked if they have a back level of the program in their download file and the answer was no. They are completely useless in helping resolve any issue.
On top of it I tried to log on to my account and was not successful. Their response was that "My Account" software was being repaired.
My observation is that this company is on it's way out. Nothing works. You get excuses and no answers. To me that is a sure sign that the company has issues and may not be in business much longer.

Don't use Rel 14 of System Mechanic.

"The best release of System Mechanic to date!"

Incorporates significant improvements in its comprehensive set of utility functions; 'Live Boost' being the best .

SM should incorporate an option to auto repair problems problems found during its 'System Analysis' function, so user intervention is not necessary. Layout and GUI are somewhat awkward for the new user. Requires careful attention to iOLO's tutorial.

Good value for the most complete maintenance package available for Windows.

"So far the best Optimizer and fixer for Windows!"

Version 12.7 is very powerful, with several individual tools to fix, optimize and maintain your computer. It also has a general system check and overview, the default options are ok and the user as to do nothing but just follow the instructions of the wizard: analyze, review the findings (optional) and apply the repairs/suggestions from system mechanic.

I found that this default method works great, even better than other similar tools.

If you are an advanced or geek user, you may want to enable more (if not all) the "Automated tasks" which basically means to manually enable the "registry defragmentation" and the "repair hard drive errors", both options when enabled display a popup window showing that System Mechanic will trigger such features as needed, and that it may imply that sometimes the windows boot time may take longer.

I activated both options so that also system mechanic automatically take care of them

I've found none so far, but some tools could be improved, for example, the "advanced uninstaller" is just a simple program uninstaller, it would be great that the program also do a safe and deep clean of leftovers (since System Mechancin registry and file cleaners works great, there should be no issue).

Another feature that is missing and could be great to add (and that similar tools already have) is a program deactivator, that you can deactivate a program and when windows boots and loads, the program and it's files and services are not loaded, but when you manually open that program, that System Mechanic enables it with all the necessary dependencies, then when you close the program that System mechanic with 30 secs or 1 minute to disable the program again

It has it's own disk defragmenter and optimizer among a feature called "AcceleWrite", Iolo claims that when both features are enabled, windows will boot and perform better... and that is 100% true!

I'm really impressed with this neat software.

My two computers are faster and more stable! I even uninstalled my paid Perfect Disk defragmenter, and System Mechanic drive defragmenter and optimizer works way better!

If you want to get the most of your computer you should install this software AND make sure to uninstall any third party defragmenter.

Hands down this is the best tool to fix, optimize and maintain your Windows system, I've tried TuneUp utilities, Advanced SystemCare, Cloud System Booster, 360amigo, Glary Utilities, etc and none of them give the stability and performance of system mechanic.

Version 14 is out, it has a new tool called "power sense" the tool is still in early stages, but is looking toward to further improve the CPU usage, to maximize it when a particular process, program or task is performed, and to reduce and power off cores when you want to save battery.

one big cons:
Iolo's tech support sometimes seems like a bot is answering, those support tickets are not answered properly, but other tickets are well attended.

This is an issue that iolo must work at
