"Can i give negative stars? HORRIBLE STAY AWAY"

    July 8, 2014  |   By innerweb

    Version: System Mechanic Free 12.7.0.43

    Pros

gives you something to do for the next week trying to restore your computer after this "software" destroys your registry and renders your backups unusable.

    Cons

well this is about as bad as software can get. not only does it not do what it promises but it in fact destroys your system. by rendering your registry not just empty but unreadable, it does a better job than any malware or virus out there of destroying the very thing you're trying to save by downloading it. irresponsible programmers like this should be jailed.

    Summary

worse than bad. i would love to meet up (in a dark alley) with the ***holes who wrote this program and the jerks who put fake positive reviews here. come on CNET get your act together. people trust you to weed out the bad software. you really dropped the ball on this one.

    Updated on Jul 8, 2014

anyone know of a good program to pull data off of a dead machine? tried ultimate boot disk and it is sort of working but slow and tedious.

did i mention this software is bad?

    "Not to shabby"

    June 21, 2014  |   By Ed Sterling

    Version: System Mechanic Free 12.7.0.43

    Pros

I have been running System Mechanic paid version for number of years with no complaints. It brought and old XP system back to life, I also run it on a Vista system and Windows 7. I like it better then CC Cleaner with its has a vast assortment of features.

    Cons

The load up to run is a bit slow.

"DON'T LET THE REVIEWS BY IOLO EMPLOYEES FOOL YOU"

    June 4, 2014  |   By TECHCRZY

    Version: System Mechanic Free 12.7.0.43

    Pros

The disk makes a good Frisbee

    Cons

Free to reel you in. Barely any features compared to any free utility. Paid version is expensive $29.99 a year. This program will mess up your pc! Don't let it touch your registry unless you have a recovery disk. No support what so ever.

    Summary

    CRAP-WARE TRUST ME.

    "Review for System Mechanic Professional"

    March 5, 2014  |   By cmwaters

    Version: System Mechanic Free 12.5.0.79

    Pros

Fast, Easy, Reliable, and Downright Satisfying!

The "analyze" feature shows you what issues your computer has at a quick glance.

    Cons

When you install it to another computer, you have to use the SAME email that the copy is registered to. This can get rather annoying, as I have quite a few email accounts to track on a daily basis (work, school, home, work-at-home, website, etc.)

    Stopped supporting Windows XP (bummer)

    Doesn't support Linux

Offers "Premium Services" for a fee.

    Summary

First of all, I just want to clarify that I'm graduating with my B.S. Network & Communications Management in the next few months, so I have quite a bit of experience with computers in general.

All-In-All, this is an excellent utility program. I have been using it for the past 7 years. I opted for System Mechanic Professional, because I read a review in some computer geek (that's me!) magazine when I was still in high school and I happened to find a copy at WalMart on clearance soon after. I find it much better than the alternative (AVG Free just isn't enough and McAfee is ANNOYING... as is the Symantec NORTON option!)

The Professional version allows you to install on an unlimited amount of computers (at least, that's what mine says). The only issue I've had is reminding my family, when they install it on their new computers, to USE THE SAME EMAIL I USED in order to activate it for use. LOL

As opposed to the alternative of going into each individual utility through Windows and setting a schedule of when to run (or even running it manually each week or two, eeekk), this is the option to go for. Not only can you set up your schedules of when to run different utilities, they can automatically run everything at the same time, all through one program, with just the click of a button.

The feature to "analyze" your drive, lets you know just what is going on and how many "problems" you may or may not have. Naturally, anything man-made is going to have flaws, even computers! System Mechanic Professional finds registry errors, defragments drives, and even acts as a firewall to prevent crashes and unauthorized access to your computer(s).

iolo Technologies also offers "Premium Services" for a fee of $200 (for one PC), up to $300 for three PCs, which includes in-depth troubleshooting and advanced technical support.

Not only are you getting the quality of the program, you get the customer support behind iolo Technologies. If I ever have an issue or question, I simply give their amazing customer support team a call and the rest is history. The greatest thing of all... If for any reason you aren't satisfied, System Mechanic is simple to uninstall (unlike McAfee and Symantec Norton).

My subscription time runs past 2018. :)

"Excellent software that has turned into junk software!"

    February 27, 2014  |   By mecpooler

    Version: System Mechanic Free 12.5.0.79

    Pros

    None with current version.

    Cons

Support absolutely stinks. This version will screw up your registry beyond repair. Finds too many false disk errors. Anti-virus & spyware program not that good. Disk defragmenter takes excessive time to run.

    Summary

Have used System Mechanic since Version 6. I removed this garbage from both my Windows 8.1 computers soon after this version was released. Still trying to repair damage done to registries of both computers. Will not try again until Version 13 is released.

    "Don't waste your disk space"

    February 11, 2014  |   By ninja660

    Version: System Mechanic Free 12.5.0.79

    Pros

Nice bells and whistles - that's about it.

    Cons

Poor tech support, cannot answer any technical questions in depth about their products - kept asking for reactivation (turn on the service when you think it was running!) Their only solution was to remove/reinstall the software. FAIL. Don't waste your disk space on this product.

    Summary

iolo products will never ever again touch my disk space as a utility solution. Microsoft Security Essentials works as a better solution.

    Pros

Disk optimizations (paid version) are the best there are. Startup editing is good also.

    Cons

Finds imaginary disk errors. It will mess up your Windows 8 registry beyond repair.

    Summary

Great disk optimizer. Bad for registry.
