"It can be the right program for you"

    June 1, 2015  |   By RoundER18

    Version: System Mechanic Free 14.5.1.37

    Pros

+Excellent active optimization - Get more out of your system from your CPU, RAM, and hard disk (SSD included)
+Really solves other problems that other similar utilties cannot find
+Does increase your performance (Has a nice drive defragment tool)

    Cons

-Old and unchanging interface (Could use a new, modern look for easier navigation for users)
-Antivirus included with the suite is horribly and still needs a lot of work
-Netbooster doesn't really do any noticeable increase with your internet connection
-Iolo Technical Support is not reliable as they can't help you (in my experience) with problems with their software on the computer. If you're looking for tech support, iolo is not the place to be.
-Can corrupt your windows 8, 8.1 installation files on your hard disk. Found this out the hard way when trying to do a PC refresh.
-Driver Updater isn't very accurate or efficient.
-Does not fix drive errors permanently (I don't know about you guys but, everytime I do a scan it appears I always have a drive error even if that not a case: and this was on a SSD).

    Summary

[Note: I am a former user who paid for IOLO until last year December 2014. I say former because I couldn't afford it afterwards.)

This program can be a hit or miss with users: works either best on some, worse on others. The only thing I can tell you is to have a backup of your system and try it out yourself to see if it works for you and your system.
So far my experiences with it so far were good despite the many cons I listed.
I have tried this on many machines running Windows 7 and 8 in my home.
I only had 1 annoying problem on windows 7 home premium x64 (UI was messed up for some reason; couldn't use the program), and the most severe was on my windows 8.1 gaming laptop (Iolo messed up my windows 8 installation files-that gave me a headache for two weeks).

That said, I will not recommend this product to average users unless they know what they are getting into and have made apropriate backups. While the tools they included in the suite may/can cause future problems in a long run that is your choice to use it or not.
What I actually love and approve of this product was the PROS I listed above.
I had a G750JX Gaming laptop. The improvements made to the active optimization features on the suite really made my gaming experience wonderful. I once removed iolo just to see, and notice a drop in the general performance of my laptop.

The recent under the hood improvements seem to focus on that aspect of the suite which I really like. I believe if they update the rest of the tools found in their suite (which I suspect they have not updated in a long time), and have a dedicated support and feedback forum, this would be one of the great Paid products out there.

Conclusion: Backup your system, trial run it, and give it a spin if you feel like you have enough technical knowledge to risk it.
