As I am in complete agreement w/ freevito's review, and will not likely be able to say it any more elequently, I will suffice to say that SPX has worked for me flawlessly thus far, and as stated. It deserves every bit of five stars.

    "The Best For My Purposes"

    June 12, 2003  |   By freevito

    Version: Synchronize! Pro X 3.0.2

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've been using SyncPro X since v.1.8.x, so I've got some historical perspective on this app's progress.

One of the things that matters most to me when I buy a company's product is their level of service. Darned few things in this world are perfect, including me, and I try to keep that in perspective when I run across a few wrinkles in the fabric of life. I had a couple of problems when I first tried to run SyncPro X, but Qdea's support was incredibly responsive, and we got everything worked out. I didn't get those results by treating them as though they had deliberately set out to attack my peace of mind or rip me off. Instead, I gave 'em a chance to show who they really are, and they came through.

SyncPro X is a product that just keeps getting better & better. I understand the point that some folks make about the 10MB limit not being sufficient to really give the app a real try before you buy, but at the time I paid for my license it didn't matter much -- SyncPro X was the only app that would a make bootable backup of an entire volume in exactly the way I wanted. It's still the only app that gives me all the features I need, at any price. Besides, if I had purchased the license and found that the app didn't work for my needs, I'd have gotten my money back. Qdea is a company that understands the value of satisfied customers. It's not in their interest to screw people...word travels fast in these digital days.

As for the $99.00 license, it's worth every penny to me...but then again, I know exactly what I need in a backup app. People who want to pay a lower fee are probably looking for something that has fewer features, has less responsive tech support, or isn't updated & improved as frequently and as reliably as SyncPro X is.

Based on my own experience, SyncPro X has solved the problem of how to consistently provide high-quality service across the term of the license by offering it at a fixed fee for a fixed period (two years). There are no surprise announcements demanding upgrade fees, so the user knows exactly what to expect. Once you pay the fee, any and all updates are free within the term of the license, regardless of how extensive they might be. The company benefits by stabilizing its revenues at a level that enables them to stay in business and continue to provide support of consistent, reliable, and predictable quality. And they can't very well afford not to deliver on that promise, or users will be dissatisfied, won't renew their licenses, and there goes the ball game.

Let's see.. I paid for my license less than a year ago at v1.8.2, and now we're at v3.0.1, with a vastly more sophisticated app. It hasn't cost me a dime more than the original licensing fee, and I still have more than a year to go on my license. Sounds like a win-win deal to me. Compare that to an app like Norton Utilities, which has hit me for upgrade fees twice within approximately the same period, and Symantec still can't get NUM and Speed Disk to run natively in OS X without coughing up the same lame screen prompt telling me to boot off the CD and run Norton Utilities in OS 9.

The premise underlying Qdea's fee structure is that the folks who write useful code are just like you and me...they'd prefer to eat rather than starve to death, and it would also be nice to be able to continue to live indoors. That takes money. If their product creates value, they deserve to be paid. If you don't think it's worth the fee, don't pay it, and go use a competing application. That will speak more loudly and more effectively than negative commentary. Besides, if you keep silent, no one will know whether you're a fool; if you open your mouth and spew negative garbage, you'll remove all doubt.

    "Powerful & Reliable Application"

    June 11, 2003  |   By makalu

    Version: Synchronize! Pro X 3.0.2

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
We've been using Sync Pro (and now Sync Pro X) for years. It is powerful and reliable. Sync Pro will create your bootable mirror, will synchronize (with proper delete propagation), can be scheduled, can archive files that are deleted or replaced, can auto-mount volumes, has extensive filtering capabilities, and the list goes on. Anyone taking the time to explore its capabilities will realize how silly it is to price compare or rate it against products like CCC, FolderSynchronizer, ExecutiveSync and the like.

    "Synchronize! Pro X is solid."

    Version: Synchronize! Pro X 3.0

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
And yes, it does cost more than the stellar Carbon Copy Cloner (which is "free"), but there are features that are worth the pricetag. The product is definitely solid and stable and with the new features in 3.0, it now has even more incentive to use over CCC. I agree with the posting from the company that negative reviews seem to be "fabricated". I have been using the 2.X release for over a year with much success, and I highly recommend this product.

"Fantastic Product, Robust, Elegant, and Reliable"

    June 5, 2003  |   By JohnDCCIU

    Version: Synchronize! Pro X 2.2

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
We've been using Synchronize Pro on Mac OS 9 for years, doing enterprise-wide (syncing) backups from 5 remote sites with many gigs of data to central storage. It has worked day and night perfectly, even under Mac OS 9. We recently upgraded the machine to OS X and Synchronize Pro X, and it continues to excel at the task.

Recently, I needed to consolidate almost a terabyte of data from various obsolete Windows and Mac servers to a single new NAS server (a SnapAppliance 12000). I first tried to do it with OS X Finder copies, but was a massive pain, giving weird "-56" errors and the whole copy would die if it hit one minor problem (i.e. file "busy"), which it seemed to do about every 10 minutes.

I then remembered Synchronize Pro that we'd been using for remote backup for years, so reliable that it was almost forgotten, and gave it a try. With the identical data and shares mounted on the same computer, Synchronize Pro X in "backup" mode worked perfectly and moved almost a terabyte of data from various servers to our new central NAS server, handling small problems elegantly and continuing on with it's task without a hiccup. It was also much faster than the Finder's copy on the same computer, same connections, and I could do entire volumes at once without breaking them down into smaller copies, as I was forced to do with the Finder.

I heartily recommend Synchronize Pro to anyone, either in it's Mac OS X or Mac OS 9 versions: it has saved us a huge amount of time and effort in our extremely demanding enterprise setting. I haven't tried the brand-new 3.0 version yet, but I expect it to continue the product's excellent track record.

    "Best Backup Program"

    May 2, 2003  |   By Mino

    Version: Synchronize! Pro X 2.2

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've used Synchronize! Pro X since it first came out. The new Wake on Lan feature is awesome. I no longer need to disable sleep on the computers I want to keep backed up. The price is reasonable considering you only need one license to run on a backup server and it will allow you to backup any number of machines. What I like the best is not having to launch a seperate application to browes/recover a file.
