"Strange Errors"
Version: SyncToy 2.1
Pros
Easy setup
Cons
Insufficient options
Summary
I decided to implement this as my backup tool just before I changed my LAN to Windows 7.
It worked fine when I ran XP on the Left Folder and Vista on the Right Folder.
Then I upgraded my LAN to Windows 7 for a uniform platform across all computers. Strange failure errors prevented the tool from updating my folder sync even after checking all permissions and share settings.
I right clicked to Run as Administrator thinking that might get around my problems, but the menu option was not there, probably because I was already logged in as Administrator. But right next to where it should have been was Troubleshoot compatibility.
Running that, Windows suggested running under XP SP2 compatibility. Trying that produced a fatal error and Windows reported this as an incompatible application, which surprised me because what runs on Vista should run on 7. -
"Good Program, very long resync on 1st run after upgrade"
Version: SyncToy 2.1
Pros
Worthy upgrade of very good program
Cons
The first run after the upgrade will take about 1/2 hour.
Still needs a safety confirm on deletes, I lost a whole year's correspondence to this oversightSummary
This is a very solid program.
The first run after the upgrade will take a very long time as every entry is redone.
Still needs a safety confirm on deletes, I lost a whole year's correspondence to this oversight -
"An easy tool for regular back-up"
Version: SyncToy 2.1
Pros
The new version shows generally less failed items than previous versions
Cons
So far a weekly back-up is stopping about midway during the first run. When you repeat it, it goes runs OK and completes it without problems. Previous versions did not show this characteristic

"More customization options would be good."
Version: SyncToy 2.1
Pros
Simple and easy to use.
Cons
Lacks the ability to retry and correct errors encountered while syncing.

"Great product. Does what it is supposed to do,"
Version: SyncToy 2.1
Pros
Easy to set up. II use Sync Toy manually to sync to my external hard drive and it works very well. Quick and efficient. Backs up the files to your choice of directories onto a variety of formats. Files are backed up in their native format.
Cons
Could use a good reference manual especially about setup. Instructions on screen are clear and helpful..Since it is free, that is the trade off. I would rather have it free than to have to pay for the software with a manual.
Summary
Great product. Works well with Windows 7 32 bit. No issues or problems so far after a week.

"Best Sync app available"
Version: SyncToy 2.1
Pros
Easy to use, quick and sure
Cons
None that I can think of
Summary
Excellent sync, best of breed.

"Straight forward software to synchronise your files."
Version: SyncToy 2.1
Pros
It is just so easy to set up the folder pairs, or even document pairs. You can preview what is going to happen before pressing the JFDI button to make sure that is exactly what you want the programme to do.
Cons
I would like to able to modify the sync pair instead of removing it and setting it up again. However, it is so easy to set up that this is not really an issue.
Summary
The best I have tried and so user friendly. Intuitive steps that make sure you are going to sync what you really want and at the end ... a double check. It takes seconds to install, seconds to set up, then seconds to use. I back up many folders between various PCs, laptops, external devices and memory sticks that I would now be lost without it. There are other sync tools but this is the one I really like and will stick with as long as it is there.
