"Very good does what it says"
Version: SyncBackSE 5.7.5.34
Pros
Does what it says.
Cons
Complicated to set up,
Summary
The setup is complicated, and requires fine tuning, usually as the instructions are not easily understood, and there are so many variations,, the default settings are ok. but a better written instruction - simplified would certainly help.

"Simple and effective"
Version: SyncBackSE 5.6.0.34
Pros
It does what I want it to do, and fast. Free version doesn't lack essential features or restrict the number of "jobs" or files you can back up.
Cons
None that I know of, but I don't use all the features. UI could be (a lot!) better.
Summary
I just want to make sure files I've been working on on my portable are backed up to my tower and external hard disk, and vice versa. With this I can be sure I miss nothing.

"Doesn't do all it's supposed to"
Version: SyncBackSE 4.3.2.1
Pros
SyncBack seems to do a great job when synching or backing up to a second hard drive.
Cons
But, it's supposed to be able to back up to removable media, such as DVD-RW optical media, by zipping files and spanning discs, just like many pkzip-compatible programs do. But, I've found this doesn't work. It creates the spanned media, but other unzip utlities can't open the files, even though SyncBack says they should be able to do so. They even tout this as an important feature of the program on their website. Too bad it doesn't work. Not only is the zip fileset unreadable, when I configured SyncBack to verify the zip files after creation, it bomed out with an error, but erased the conents of the first disc in the process!
Their website support is lacking as well -- I tried (and actually was able to) create a trouble ticket to ask about this problem, yet when I tried to later see if it was addressed, the site claimed I had no open tickets.
So, if all you care about is copying files to another drive, SyncBack looks pretty good, If you want to back up to an optical drive using spanned zip files, forget it.
