"SyncBack is my favorite Utility"

Pros
Used this little Utility for years to back-up and synchronize directories between a few computers. Love the customization and easy setup.
Cons
Interface is pretty basic looking, but its free.
Summary
Tried others but always continue to rely on SyncBack for keeping various directories in sync.

Flexible, flawless, easy to use. Backup or Sync or anything in between.

Not approved for Windows 7 yet. Not a problem as long as I still have one XP machine.
Summary
I have used most of the options without any problems. Any sync option you can think of is here: back up one computer to the other, overlay with latest file, delete or keep where missing files, copy either direction, notify before action, etc.
I'd take off 2 stars from my initial rating. It has problems syncing directories that have a large number of files in them. It says they aren't there on the other side of the network, so it copies them unnecessarily, sometimes overlaying the newer version because it didn't see it on the initial capture. This makes it unreliable unless carefully monitored to avoid this problem. The SyncBack support people respond quickly, but they don't understand the issue, so it won't be fixed. Maybe the paid version works better, but I don't want to pay just to find out.

Updated on Mar 20, 2011You won't always know when this isn't doing the right thing. I gave up on it after finding several problems. It doesn't like Unicode. It doesn't like large directories. It isn't as flexible as the best one, PureSync.
Updated on Mar 20, 2011Regarding the inaccurate "Reply" to my review, the SyncBack website clearly shows that the free version is not intended to interface to Windows 7. See the Compare subdirectory of that webside which, as of this date, it still shows a big negative! -

If you ever need tech support - even for a lost registrations, you can forget it.
Summary
If your system crashes and you can't retrieve your registration information, you're screwed. Email help will go unanswered!
