Pros: It does what it has to do, convert easiliy from any format to mp3
Cons: also installs other software as 'golden records' and that stuff

"Converts audio files, but installs extra stuff"
Pros: Switch is Intuitive and easy to use. It successfully converted .mp3 files to .aac and .m4a.
Cons: The Switch installer gives you extra stuff without asking. In addition to creating a shortcut folder for Switch in your Start menu (which you expect), it creates at least three more folders, "Audio Related Programs", "NCH Software Suite", and "Telephony Related Programs" (which you don't expect). Audio Related Programs has 11 shortcuts, NCH Software Suite has 9, and Telephony Related Programs has 5. These each appear to behave the same when you click on them, they tell you that you need to download an "install-on-demand" component. I didn't install any of these, so I'm not sure if these are trial products or what you would have to pay for them. Since they are just shortcuts they don't take up much space, but I don't like that they were installed without asking. These should have been links on the program's menu bar, or in the "about" popup.
