"Great Publishing Program"
Version: Swift Publisher 2.3.7
Pros
Very flexible, inexpensive, I love it for ads etc. Great for a small business that does not want to spend hundreds on outrageously expensive desktop publishing software.
Cons
None unless you need all the bells and whistles.
Summary
Great deal for flexible desktop publishing.

"Works well for basic publishing"

I have used SWP for quite some time - only had problems in the beginning with files getting too large and too slow while being processed. But they responded fast and rather soon that problem was fixed. I think for mere publishing needs (that maybe are not too professional - I am in the writing business and occasionally need to work on folders to sell property) it does an easier and better job than pages - especially working with the two layers (a third one might be handy). Allong with all the graphics ect. it did a rather satisfying job for me. I do admit, that I had no experience with text flows etc. since for that matter I use word - but a 12 page folder to sell a house (with photos, graphics, maps looks very professionall. "Pages 2 vs Swift Pub"

If you have iWork 06 (with Pages 2) you don't need this, so save your money. Pages easily handles long documents. I've done 200+-page book layouts without any problems, but Swift Publisher can't handle them. Likewise with newsletter projects (more like magazines) involving up to 40+ pages.
For small layout projects like brochures that don't require more than two pages, Swift Publisher might be a good alternative. -
"Buggy and crashy."

Well, there's positive feedback for single-page files, it seems, but I've found that when I'm working on a multi-page document, with text frames threading across pages and flowing around graphics, the flow doesn't seem to work well. Every time I save I have to use the insertion cursor in the text frames to re-flow the text properly, and when I started page 6 the program simply crashed.
This just isn't stable enough for me to work with at this point, unfortunately; that's too bad because I think the program's got real possibilites. -

"Nice little app"

Downloaded this to work on the family holiday newsletter and found it fun and easy to use. Nice intuitive interface with well thought out inspectors. Not sure that its functionality is that much greater than Word or Powerpoint for simple newsletters, but it's certainly more fun.
My one major gripe is that the current version does not include the ability to "group" objects. This is a basic function in graphic-oriented programs and a major oversight IMO. Tech support says they're planning on adding the feature but can't say when. -

Its way better than pages, just because Apple makes pages it doesn't mean it has to be good. I know loyal Apple fans like myself worship Apple and her products, but not everything Apple make is good, pages being one of them, Safari the other.
SP is does a lot more than pages and it does it better. Im guessing pages will catch up eventually but its not there yet. SP has some rough edges too but its is far more usable.
Until pages comes to life, SP is tha shiznit. -

If you have Apple's iWork, then Pages is all you really need. This does have other features (and clip art galore) that Pages and Keynote don't have, but otherwise this doesn't add much to layout capabilities available in Pages.
If you don't have iWork, then you'll save a few bucks.
