    June 30, 2009  |   By lsturgis

    Version: SurgeMail Mail Server 39e

    Pros

Feature rich but not for the home user wanting to set up a separate mail server. Better suited for an IT Professional

    Cons

    Difficult to confgure

    Summary

I tried to get it setup but I was in over my head. I think if I was an IT expert, I would have found this to be a great program.

"EASY to setup and start using VERY powerful"

    November 2, 2005  |   By Aster

    Version: SurgeMail Mail Server 3.7b8

    Pros

Setup is very easy. Just run the installer, setup a password, login to the admin page, add your domain(s), network stuff, users and presto! Has very high capacity. I'm using it for 79 mailboxes of heavy mailing, and no problems at all. It even includes the webmail app. It can even be used in proxy mode for redundancy. I got it running in about 10 min. Properly disposed of MS Exchange, which is a pain to administer, and if something goes wrong, it's a pain to find it. Surgemail is so easy. My mail server got infected with a virus. Just made a backup of the data directories, .ini files. Reinstalled windows, downloaded fresh copy of surgemail and restored the backup. Was online in no time. Do yourself a favor and delete MS Exchange and install this.

    Cons

Some advanced options are not implemented in the setup page. You must change them in an .ini file. Webmail could improve its icons.

    "The BEST mail server!"

    January 7, 2005  |

    Version: SurgeMail Mail Server 2.1c7

    Summary

I've used quite a few mail servers out there. Surgemail is by far the best one I have come across. It is extremely reasonably priced and sports some of the most advanced features out of any mail server. The fact I can run it on practically any platform and change platforms if I desire is very cool. Surgemail handles a very high load of mail without trouble at all. I do over half a million messages a day with no problems on a single server. The spam filtering is excellent and much more flexible than other systems. The anti-spam techniques are plentiful. One of the best selling points of this software is the support from Netwin. I have on multiple occassions reported either a bug or asked for a feature to be added and I'll have a new build sometimes within less than 24 hours!!! I've NEVER seen a vendor as responsive as Netwin. They are WONDERFUL to work with. I suggest giving the software a try. HIGHLY recommended.

    "Best mail server. Period."

    November 10, 2004  |   By Aaron_Faby_668

    Version: SurgeMail Mail Server 2.1c7

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.

Having been exposed to the majority of mail server options available for OS X, both open source and commercial, I can honestly say this is by far the best. It contains 95% of the features of Communigate Pro at only a tiny fraction of the price (unlimited users is $770 US).

We recently migrated many hundreds of domains from a qmail setup to SurgeMail and have been very pleased with the ease of use and performance of the product. There is an overwhelming amount of features, including full SSL support for all protocols and a great spam filtering mechanism called Aspam. Each user has full control over their own account settings.

NetWin support has been great. We did have some stability issues when we first started using the server, but technical support was very responsive and we are now rock solid.

Do not waste your money on anything else!
