Simplicity can be a good thing for a program, but this freeware file encryption tool takes it too far with its bare-bones interface and Help file.
SureCrypt doesn't need installation, and users need only run the program's executable to pull up the tiny, plain interface. A small window contains a toolbar with the primary commands of Key, Open, Encrypt, and Decrypt. The Help file contains only a few lines on using the program, and mostly gives alternate methods of accomplishing tasks. The problem is that neither the interface nor the Help file adequately explain the purpose of the Key command. It's best to have the app create a Key file which is used to properly encrypt files. Encryption and decryption are quick, but the app is limited to a 64-bit key Rc4 cipher.
The small footprint and simplicity of SureCrypt are admirable, but there won't be a large audience for this tool. The thin user guidance will frustrate novice users and advanced users will decry the lack of encryption options.
