"Suitcase vs... the others"
Version: Suitcase Fusion 4 11.0.4
Summary

OK, a lot of complaining here... of course has anyone compared it to anything else... I purchase Master Juggler... no auto-activation, some people don't do auto-activation... even so Suitcase is a dream to that. Font Agent Pro, it takes and copies all your fonts... and can make a mess of them too... and when you have a few fonts it slows down. Seriously until I tried the others I did not realise how much better Suitcase is.
Have not tried any of the others, though would like to know. -

Opening fonts is slow, auto-opening fonts is painfully slow. I have to always force quit it at shutdown. Crashes at least once a day. Tells me I have duplicate fonts in my system when I don't (or at least I sure can't find them!). -
"Still does not work as advertised"

Working with 10.3.6 and Suitcase 11.04 (with the server X1 but also tried with local fonts only). The program WOULD be almost perfect if only openin and closing fonts was not so painfully slow and almost unusable. Working with Xpress 6.5 is the worst combo. Unfortunately I could not find a way to leave fonts open permanently, even if the option is enabled. That woudl at least save me to force quit the program to shut down my Macs. Closing fonts at shut down takes so much time the OS thinks the app is frozen and needs a force quit. I did what i could, checking the fonts and changing prefs here and there.
How can Extensis keep up with this kind of review anyone can find here? -
"This is broken"

As of Mac OS X 10.3.5 and Suitcase 11.0.4, when a program attempts to activate fonts from Suitcase's database it reports duplicates even though none exist. This makes the system highly unresponsive. Also, if you use the Suitcase plug-in in InDesign or QuarkXPress 6, it takes ages to open and then close the fonts on quitting the document. This is totally unusable.
Is there an alternative? Can any other app auto-activate fonts in QXP and InDesign?
Extensis are you reading this? If so please respond with a fix or solution.

"WARNING! Suitcase 11.0.4 no longer works on..."
Version: Suitcase Fusion 4 11.0.4
Summary
...multiple accounts.

I'm not exactly sure why they went this far in stopping piracy of the app that they've killed this. If you are logged in as one user with Suitcase X1 11.0.4 open, switch to another, a warning message pops up when activating Suitcase saying it's open on another computer and lists your current machine's name. It says you can either quit or enter a new serial.
So I purchased a second legal copy to use the serial for my other user and all it does is change the serial for the app. You can only use one serial number. I contacted customer support and they reported that fast user switching no longer works with Suitcase. There was no other explanation. Great. So if you ever have the app open and need to switch to another user you must always quit out of Suitcase and any other apps that are using it before switching.
I really don't understand the reasoning behind this. In fact I had a rep help me get it to work with multiple users(on here no less just search the post for my question to version 10.2.1) when I couldn't get Suitcase to work properly with my second user. Why can't they serialize the app like Macromedia or other companies with the ability to install on 2 machines, with user switching enabled, instead of punishing the users who have bought the app legally? -
"Drrrrrrrek!!!"

Summary

The new release is slower than ever and slows down the entire system and all other software when running. Despite repeated checks for duplicates (Suitcase reports none) and corrupt fonts (Suitcase reports none), Suitcase throws FIFTEEN (count 'em) warning messages about "More than one instance of Swiss" now every time GoLive is launched. With at least one font set activated, Suitcase somehow manages to disable text highlighting in Illustrator. That's right. Quit Suitcase while Illustrator is still running (despite Suitcase's monotonous, repetitive warning--that you can't turn off--EVERY time you quit it), and text highlighting miraculously returns in Illustrator! But of course it's not our beloved Suitcase. Nah. Can't be. 'Cause it's grrrrrrrrrreat! <Spit!> Now wiping it permanently out of existence on all computers within reach.

Hands down the best font management tool I have ever used and I have tried them all. -
"Poorly designed..."
Version: Suitcase Fusion 4 11.0.2
Summary

The mere fact that Suitcase needs to run as an application rather than a background service in order for it to work shows a lack of proper programming design. A proper font manager should work as a background service with a separate application to be launched on occasion when the user needs to alter settings or manually activate or deactivate fonts. Think about how stupid it would have been back in OS 9 if you had to have ATM Deluxe open all the time in order for you to use your font library... this is what Suitcase is doing on OS X.
Font Reserve had it right, that's why Extensis bought them out. They were afraid of the competition. Unfortunately, Extensis is now letting the superior Font Reserve die on the vine. This type of monopolistic practice which only serves to limit our choice and forces us to pay higher prices for lower quality products should not be condoned. If, however, they utilize what works well in FR and combine this with Suitcase's clean interface to create a better product at a fair price, then I might think better of the company... but this doesn't appear to be the case. It looks like they just wanted to eliminate the competition.
I suggest you try FontAgent Pro which is altogether a better font manager. -

Why does extensis attempt to move the features and qualities from Font Reserve to Suitcase? It would be easier the other way. Extensis, drop the crappy Suitcase and give Fontreserve a more nice - Suitcase-like - interface and so we have a real good font management solution! Where's the problem? Ah, maybe the name â?¦ for heavens sake, name it "Suitcase". In any case, in 6 months one of the 2 applications will be dropped. Let's hope the Extensis people do their job well, better than they use to do it actually. -
"I HATE THIS @#!&* PROGRAM!"
Version: Suitcase Fusion 4 11.0.2
Summary

Suitcase 11 crashes all the time and blames the problem on corrupt fonts, instead of admitting it's a crappy program. It refuses to quit on shutdown. It sometimes refuses to force quit. It constantly claims there are conflicts between my fonts and the System fonts, which isn't true. It causes other programs to use weird fonts for the UI sometimes. And it's unbelievably slow. It brings my G5 to a crawl. I just can't express how much I deteste this pile of steaming horse crap.
