Epic might not be the first word we'd use to describe this Sudoku application. "Brainteasing," "challenging," or "addictive" would certainly be more accurate. It may not knock you off your feet with stupendous graphics or amusing characters, but Sudoku Epic does offer massive 16x16 grids for any gamers looking to take their puzzling action to the nth level. Aside from the extra-large puzzles, you can play 4x4, 6x6, 12x12, and the conventional 9x9 grids. You can instantly start a game in one of five difficulty levels and create your own puzzles of any of the aforementioned sizes. A nice set of "assistant" features provide various forms of help, such as showing numbers for random or specified cells, marking up the possible numbers for each open cell, and locking entered numbers.
The trial version of the game allows 10 runs, though you can play as many games as you'd like during any one, which should offer plenty of evaluation time. The interface is simple and efficient, with four expandable menus--New Game, File, Assistant, and Help--on the left. The game's appearance is easy to customize. Aside from the five included color schemes and one newspaper look, you can specify each color on the grid and use any BMP image as your game background. There's mo muss or fuss--just a well-designed, lightweight, and enjoyable Sudoku game.
