"How is it..."

September 14, 2003  |  By itsBob3

 |  Version: SubRosaSoft GlobalTraceRoute 1.21

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
From Washington State to Versiontracker.com, my TR goes to the east coast then to New Zealand before it stops and the map disappears several minutes later?
I had some high hopes for this app, the idea is great but thats where it ends...

"Dissappointing"

Sorry to say that ... crippled map, buggy, slow, nasty registration and clearly inferior to WhatRoute.

"Wrong addresses"

September 11, 2003  |  By 123

 |  Version: SubRosaSoft GlobalTraceRoute 1.1

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
It gives the wrong addresses for 203.215.248.255, 202.153.102.193,202.84.143.213 (all milton in NSW, though milton appears to be in queensland anyway).

I don't see where canberra and mclean, virginia come from, since the next addy is owned by hong kong again.

"Impressive"

September 11, 2003  |  By Xapplimatic

 |  Version: SubRosaSoft GlobalTraceRoute 1.1

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have not experienced any problems with it locking up, or giving wrong locations using v1.1. This is the app that you see on those fake hollywood computer experet screens when they trace something down which shows the arrow going from place to place on the map.... pretty cool! I've been looking for something like this which makes visual sense out of the mundane list of IP addresses thrown out there from other tracing utilities. Finally, something that "connects the dots"... and it seems to do it pretty well with all the email address traces I gave it for testing.

SUGGESTIONS: It would be nice if it could "zoom" in on a particular region or country like the US where most of the traces hit, it seems a little too far out and the tracing can get messy looking when it's so far away and the detail/resolution is therefore so low on the map. Even if it was just a digital zoom on the same map it would be better than nothing. Can't argue with the price though... :)

"well... it works... kinda"

September 10, 2003  |  By netdreamer

 |  Version: SubRosaSoft GlobalTraceRoute 1.1

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I'm in CA and trace routing to my servers in Florida. Every program I use works swell except this one. It hangs in Dearborn, Michigan :( The fact that you can't actually stop a route that's hung is frustrating also. Oh well... aside from it not "really working"... I now regret having to send em a email to "register" this "free" product with te boring world map. Makes me wonder just how much spam is really going to come off them... no matter the disclaimer.

"Neat little diversion"

September 04, 2003  |  By spiro--2008

 |  Version: SubRosaSoft GlobalTraceRoute 1.0

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
When I first downloaded this, it produced lists of IP numbers but no geographical information. For some reason, a few days later it started working fully. When it is going it is a fun little distraction.
Making signing up to the mailing list completely optional from the beginning would be nice.

"Crashes. Don't bother downloading."

August 31, 2003  |  By PaulKB

 |  Version: SubRosaSoft GlobalTraceRoute 1.0

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This sounds like a very nice piece of software and it might be. I am unable to tell if it is good or bad because when I click on GlobalTraceRoute the software crashes upon opening.

Don't bother downloading this software unless you are on broadband since a 1MB file sownloads in less than 15sec.

My rating is only for the stability of the product. The other categories I am setting as n/a since I could not try them out.
