    "Super Support"

    December 5, 2007  |   By ProjectWizards

    Version: SubEthaEdit 3.0.2

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I am very satisfied with SEE. It is a fast & lightweight tool for our textual collaboration. Just see the rating: just five stars.

But even beyond that: I reported a strange crash of SEE (which happens very rarely to me) just a few days ago - it was one the these "unreproducible" issues ;-) I've received a message from the developer the same day and they managed it to fix this crash in no time!

That's how it should be. Guys, I appreciate your work!

"Now obligatory payware. Sorry to say goodbye."

    February 11, 2006  |   By wgscott

    Version: SubEthaEdit 2.3

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I enjoyed using SubEthaEdit and I think if you are about to plop down a large chunk of change for BBedit, then at $35, this is a better deal. But if you are a non-commercial (i.e, individual or academic user) that just needs a basic unix text editor, it is simply no longer worth it. There are many free alternatives, such as Smultron, TextWrangler, vim, emacs, gvim, xemacs, aqua-emacs, kate, kedit, gedit, pico, nano, etc. etc. and even TextEdit. I'm also finding it is dead easy to make your own. Still, I am sorry to say goodbye, as it has some nice features, apart from the collaborative rendezvous features (which I don't need).

SubEthaEdit is awesome. If you haven't found a way to let this program improve your workflow, you haven't looked hard enough.

I wish it had a diff engine built in like BBEdit. That's the only deal breaker for me. I don't like the Apple FileMerge that much though it looks pretty.

    "Highly recommended"

    Summary

After looking at several alternatives, this is the editor of choice for me.

I'm using it mostly for PHP / HTML and it works perfectly with these file types.

One thing, however, could be improved (unless I'm overlooking something): With PHP files the preview loads the file as plain HTML meaning that the PHP code is not interpreted, even if you have a server running on your machine.

    "Awesome Editor"

    July 26, 2004  |   By Timothy Dearborn

    Version: SubEthaEdit 2.0.1

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This editor just replaced BBedit for me for my main programming tool and text editor. I love the syntax coloring (which you can manually modify if you desire), the track changes feature, and the simplicity of use, not to mention the Rendezvous features. I have yet to find a text editor as simple and yet robust as SubEthaEdit that is free (educational license) anywhere!

Feature request: Multi-file searching would be a nice add-on in the future version.

SubEthaEdit is bar far the best text editor for Mac OS X at this time. It's so simple and elegant; no annoying and redundant features, just an editor with the stuff you need. Excellent!

    "Truly Excellent"

    February 7, 2004  |   By Ted Landis

    Version: SubEthaEdit 1.1.5

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
It is hard to express how excellent this product is. It isn't everything to everyone, no editor is, but what it does it does beautifully, efficiently, "smartly". I get the feeling that some of its quality may be attributable to its most unique feature, built-in support for XP. As their website tagline so accurately puts it "42 brains are smarter than one."

I wonder if this product will bring about a whole new class of excellent osx programs built in a collaborative fashion.

Thank you for the editor and the inspiration to start sharing my own brain!
