Pros

Can change theme, logon screens etc, no viruses/spyware

Cons

Have to pay for it, chance that you could seriously damge your computer

Summary

I disliked this product as i tried to change my log on screen and nearly broke my computer in doing so and the interface looks crappy, and you have to pay for it seriously think to your self, why should anyone have to pay to make thier XP look better, microsoft should offer a feature like this for free as i think the orginal XP look is poor, but thats getting off the point, if you want to use this go ahead, but if not there are better and free ways to do this

"AMAZING"

Pros

I First installed the program about a year ago and have been changing my themes periodically to suit my moods. Themexp.org has so many cool themes its hard to choose which ones you like best.

Cons

while downloading a login screen I executed a file and began a horrible path of events. It was some horrible virus that cut me off from the internet and corrupted my run32exe.dll. So if you install you must have a virus program, and a good one too. I didn't have one and had to format my computer. Be prepared because it is dangerous. But the benifits are very nice.

I would like to reinstall it now that i have a anti-virus program but it won't work on my version of xp, it worked fine before. help me if you know a fix for this problem

"Not worth it"

Pros

I loved the program, and actually purchased it for my desktop and my laptop. I have had no problems with it screwing up either computer, and there are places to download skins at no cost and with no spyware.

Cons

It's not the software I have a problem with its with TGTSoft, they do not support their own software. I had been having problems with my hard drive, and feared that it would become unstable, so I installed a different bootable hard drive, stylexp required a new hardware id with the new hard drive. I emailed them many many times and they have not responded to any of my attempts to contact them. There is a link on their support page for just such a problem, but what good does it do when they simply ignore the emails. BAD SUPPORT PRACTICES.

"You're all doing it WRONG. Excellent software if..."

Pros

It's excellent- I didn't need to pay for it because I went about acquiring the program and the keygen through slightly illegitimate methods, and ever since install I have nothing but great things to say about this program.

It makes my computer look absolutely perfect, exactly the way I would want it. There's nothing I would change about it.

NEVER freezes, annoys me, causes errors, nothing at all. It's very diverse, and has a short learning curve that can be solved by two or three trips to google.

Cons

What I don't like about this program, is that there's no randomizer for the boot screens, as far as I know. I had another program previously that sucked, but it randomized my boot screens. So apparently it's not an impossible thing to achieve, but overlooked by the developers.

What's all this negative hype?? Well,

Misconceptions and explanations:

1) There is no adware/spyware/virri, whatever, in this entire program. Only CERTAIN objects available for download in the website contain these things, and they are MARKED AND LABELED so you know which ones are which. You need to READ the disclaimer at the top of every page on the site, people.

2.) Screwed up installation/alerts/crashes? You obviously encountered an error in the program that was incompatible with your system. If you had a program control app. running or registry protect that may have prevented or otherwise hindered proper installation, then there's your sign. System restore isn't really necessary, just go into add/remove progs and it should clear everything up. If there's any left over remaining processes that are still running and annoying you, open task manager (Cntrl + Alt + Delete) and select the tab "processes". If you can't find the one you're looking for offhand, google each process (I know, pretty tedious. But an ounce of experience equals a pound of theory) until you acquire the name of the troublesome one, and then go to Start > Search. Type in the full process name, and then select "Search hidden files and folders". When you get the file, right click and select "open containing folder". NOTE: YOU MUST BE SURE THIS IS THE DESIRED PROCESS!! Now delete the entire folder, because it contains the remnants of the deleted program.

***ALSO, check in your "prefetch" folder for that process. If you don't know how to do that, google it.

3.) "You have to pay for additional themes/ etc." So far, all of the boot screens, themes, logon screens, icon sets, wallpapers, etc. have been free if you know where to get them from our old pal google. However, if you go to the program company's store, then yes, you do have to purchase them. The same concept applies to this as does iTunes for your iPod, or Limewire for your iPod.

4.) The risk of "screwing up": Debunked and re-bunked. Of course, there's somewhat of a percentage that you may download a bootscreen that can alter your computer in an undesired form (i.e. screw it all up). But then again, when you download the bootscreen zip file, search it for the right content. StyleXP will handle that stuff automatically, and only install the file it needs to install to run properly. Disregard all the directions in the zip folder, as they are meant for self installation or use through another program.

SELF INSTALLERS BEWARE. The risk of messing everything up by following google users' instructions and home recipes is FAR GREATER than using StyleXP. I've installed many bootscreens through styleXP and not a single one has produced any problems at all.

The bottom line, think before you make a decision.

This is not one of those "fail safe" programs like firefox installation or installing antivirus. This is a computer-altering program, and if you don't know how you want your computer altered, and don't know how to get to that level, you shouldn't even be taking the risk in the first place.

Again, consider all options.

Pros

It works just like it says that it does. It can change the look of Windows, and it uses that native skinning capabilities in XP, so there is no extra strain on your system. The skins are basic, but they are nice. Customizing is easy using the interface.

Cons

This program can really mess up your computer. I put it on my computer, and after the trial, when I went to uninstall it, not only did it leave traces of itself behind, but it scrambled all of my desktop icons and deleted some as well. That is really unacceptable for a program. Also, nearly every downloadable skin that you can get for it contains spyware or adware. It is not okay to force users to download useless toolbars in order to use the program. And the toolbars the skin download forces you to install will also delete any toolbars that you have previously installed. This program is nice, but try it at your own risk. And do not download any additional skins.
