Version: StuffIt Deluxe 2009
"This software is completely terrible"
Pros: Absolutely none (Why would CNET assume Stuffit has 10 characters worth of good qualities? It doesn't.)
Cons: Resets file associations
Summary: Even if you choose not to associate certain archive extensions with Stuffit, it will still reset the settings for ALL of them, so that your computer no longer knows what to open them with. It's only a minor inconvenience having to tell it to open my files with WinRar again, but no commercial product should make that mistake.
Doesn't extract files properly
When I tried to use it, it didn't work properly at all. I extracted the file, and it gave me a file with a size of 0, an empty file. Needless to say, software that doesn't do what it is supposed to do is not worth trying, never mind buying.
And if it did actually do what it was supposed to do, there is still the fact that it costs $50.00. If I am sending a file to someone, why would I force them to pay $50 for terrible software when WinRar works great, is widely used, and is basically free? Sorry, no. Stuffit is just terrible all around.
And did the CNET editor even try the software before giving it a 4 1/2 star rating? Seriously, this is the worst piece software I have tried in a long while.
If you are considering download it, just don't. Whatever .sit file you think you need to extract, forget it. It isn't worth the time, bandwidth, or frustration. Avoid this piece of crap like the plague.
