Publisher's description

From Magiclab Software :

StorageCrypt allows you to encrypt and password protect fixed and removable drives, including USB drives, Memory Sticks, Flash cards, PCMCIA drives and more. It uses 128 bit AES encryption for maximum security and does not store the password on the removable device. Once encrypted, the removable drive will produce an error message and cannot be opened it it is used on any other computer (unless it has StorageCrypt installed). The user will not know that the drive is protected, as it appears to be simply damaged. This approach has the advantage of being more secure, however it limits the portability of the data somewhat. The software can be used on an unlimited number of drives. Version 3.01 is fully compatible with Vista.

What's new in this version:

Repaired some bugs , more stable and safety . Since v3.0 , StorageCrypt does not support win9x system . New feature in v3.0 , 1. If the encrypting process was not completely finished (abnormal shutdown), it also has ability to decrypt the drive . In v2.0, it would cause a fatal error . 2. Show drive letter in partition info window . 3. When removable drive was encrypted , system will not display a message "The disk is not formatted !" . 4.Fully compatible with Vista system .

    Version: StorageCrypt 3.0.1

"Perfect for external hard drives or USB flash drives"

    by TonyTiger14 on September 21, 2009

Pros: Encrypts a drive's file allocation table, so no one can read any of your drive's contents (at least not without going to extreme measures such as reformatting it & retrieving the files using a program like PC Inspector File Recovery, I understand).

Cons: It's not possible to encrypt individual folders without partitioning-off sections of a hard drive. For internal drives, it's probably better to use Hide Folders XP/2009 (as I've used previously, and continue to use for some of my C: drive folders).

Summary: One really nice feature is that the program can be installed to a USB flash drive (as well as to more than one PC for personal users). In my case, I installed the program to the pre-allocated encrypted portion of a Verbatim 16GB flash drive (using ... read more >>
