"Invaliable - hope it gets updated for SN"

December 25, 2009  |  By macgroover

 |  Version: Sticky Windows 2.4

Pros

Great App!

Cons

No longer works in Snow Leopard. There is a clear explanation as to why on the developer's site.

"Still doesn't work with Snow Leopard"

November 03, 2009  |  By rahnes0ng

 |  Version: Sticky Windows 2.4

Pros

Nice idea but it doesn't work with Snow Leopard.

Cons

I can't get the thing to work with Snow Leopard.

Summary

I downloaded it, installed it and went to authorize it. I get a small screen that tells me I need to enter my password to authorize it but it doesn't give me anywhere to enter a password. Am I suppose to create a new password, use my mac password? I tried to restart my mac hoping that would fix things but to no avail. Hopefully they will fix this at some point.

"Nice utility!"

The product is up to v2.4 on the developers website. Not sure why it hasn't been updated here. So far, I'm finding it to be a well designed product that gives me tabbed window behavior very similar to what was available in OS 9. I like it much better than minimizing windows into the dock because I can instantly see the window title, and the position of the tab does not change as I add/remove tabs from the border of the computer screen.

"Very Good"

Good and stable window manager. Not as feature rich as the more powerful WindowShade, but still a good way to prevent window clutter. The automatic feature to allow the use of one window at a time is faster and easier than using the Finder minimize feature.

When I purchased this I was so happy because I used to have this feature in the old Mac OS. Then my hopes turned. While you can have the windows as tabs, they do not live through reboots. So this software is useless. I tried to contact support but got no reply.

After a couple attempts to insert the serial number - even after booting in SAFE MODE, actually a LOT of attempts, the authors emailed me a different serial number and now the software works as described so I will increase my ratings, it really is a nice utility to have on your MAC

This was a nightmare. This has to be the most unstable piece of garbage I ever downloaded.

Soon as I clicked to activate, the dock went down then came back up, this continued and never stopped. The curser was jumping all over the place. The computer became painfully slow as if I had a couple dozen apps running and I was video chating on iChat while downloading and more. Oh course I was doing none of that. This Sticky Windows went crazy. I finally got it deactivated then trash the pane. It was like trying to grab on to a river eel.

Maybe it just doesn't play nice with others.

Even though the video about this app was cool. I will NEVER try it again.

"Promising, but..."

Summary

I glad this most useful feature in OS 9 is now sort-of available for OS X. If the developer can fix a few things, it will be a System add-on worth the price. Here are some of the bugs/annoyances I have found:

- If you click on a tab, and then mistakenly close it by using the close button, the tab disappears from the Desktop margin. This is very annoying, since most people use the window close button by habit. Re-clicking the tab is not always intuitive. It should be possible to add a setting for this in the Prefs Pane, to allow the user to close a Sticky Window either by clicking the tab, clicking the close button, or both. What I really think is that it should be fixed so that the only way to delete a tab is to physically pull it out of the margin in a cloud of smoke, ala the Dock.

- When you close ANY Finder Window with the close button, whether it's a Sticky Window or not, another random Sticky Window opens. Maybe it's not random. Maybe it's the last Sticky Window opened or something, but it really needs fixing. Example: Open a hard drive or the Trash in a window. When you are finished you close it as normal, with the close button (remember these may not be Sticky Windows), and as soon as you have done that, one of the Sticky Windows opens. This should just be fixed, and not as a Pref setting.

- I just restarted my Mac and found all of the Sticky Windows open in the center of the Desktop, and no tabs in the Desktop margins. Surely as a Startup Item, it should be able to remember that they were in the tab position, and not all open.

"Works great for me, very stable"

Summary

I have been using Sticky Windows for quite a while now with no crashes. and I am pretty happy with it
It is a daily part of my mac life.

a co-worker found that Sticky was a little bit unstable with some product from Unsanity, I think he mentioned the APE module... so if Sticky seems unstable it might be that, anyway he must have found a solution since he is constantly having tabs all over his screen.

anyway I would totally recommend this product, I love it
