    "Made my computer freeze intermittently"

    January 25, 2008  |   By whannah1

    Version: Spyware Doctor 5.5

    Pros

For awhile I thought it was doing some good for my computer. Maybe it did remove/block a few things that shouldn't have been there, who knows.

    Cons

My computer's performance went down the tubes. Sometimes it would freeze up for a few minutes at a time. I couldn't even get a look at the task manager, and when I finally did the CPU was back at 2%. Other times, just right clicking on the desktop it would take 30 seconds to bring up the menu.

I couldn't figure out what was going on until I got rid of SWD. It didn't make sense to me that this was the source of my problems, but I uninstalled in a desperate attemp to make my computer usable again. Now it runs like the day I bought it. There are much better programs out there, don't waste your time.

"Spyware/Malware included & asks for $30 AFTER you've installed trial version!"

    January 17, 2008  |   By dreamsurfer63

    Version: Spyware Doctor 5.5

    Pros

    NOTHING

    Cons

I downloaded the free trial version. It read that I had infections I definitely did not AND read Spybot S&D and AdAware as "infections" I remotely scanned my computer for the so-called infections this program said I had and manually looked for what it said I had as well and it was dead wrong! If my computer is infected now, then it came from this software!

After it tells you that your computer is infected, when you try to remove the so-called infections (that on this system were non-existent), it says you need a key, thus need to pay the $29.95 or so, to remove the non-existent infections.

As for if this product really does work for real infections is beyond me. The labels were enough for an experienced person to look up and tell if that infection really did exist, but the average computer user would likely not have a clue as to how to look those things up the way they are listed, which is ****-poor at best...

There are free programs (which I strongly encourage donations for) such as AdAware, Spybot Search and Destroy & AVG Antivirus that work VERY well and are not hoaky like this one is! (AdAware does have a paid version that does a bit more and is worth the money.) Spybot S&D only asks for donations and is a very good program that sometimes picks up stuff that AdAware doesn't and vice versa (depending on the new junk malware and adware writers make up & who gets the problem fixed first!) AVG is a free (OR paid) anti-virus/anti-malware/anti-spyware program set that works awesome! just make sure you get it from the manufacturer or a reputable website, as with anything else.

This program opened ports that can cause infection on my computer, so I can see why another poster got an infected laptop!

I would STRONGLY recommend AVOIDING this program, especially if you are a new computer user or have limited knowledge! Use the other reputable products I listed above!

IF I could give this software 0 stars or negative ones, I would!

    Avoid this product!

"Tied up 99% of system capabilities while updating"

    January 16, 2008  |   By kwhatley

    Version: Spyware Doctor 5.5

    Pros

easy to install, easy to uninstall

    Cons

Every time it updated, it would tie up 99% of my system's capabilities. System PIG. Computer runs MUCH MUCH MUCH faster without it installed. Plenty of other AV programs out there without having to put up with this one. I called their tech support and they told me "that's just the way that it is." So, they know about it, but don't seem to care about it.

    "2 1/2 stars for now!"

January 16, 2008  |   By The Sports Fan

    Version: Spyware Doctor 5.5

    Pros

Decent program but not without flaws. Scan times are seriously increased. It did an intelli-scan on my computer in 1 minute, 34 seconds and there were no false positives, Thats nice and an improvement. It also seems that the load has been lightened it does have some nice shields. Anti-Virus warning can be turned off

    Cons

Heres the flaws the way i see them. If I wand "PC Tools" anti-virus, I would have installed the free version which tries to install on the first update after registration of "Spyware Doctor ( rubbish ). Next, It slows down my start-up by 30 seconds or so (start-up where I have full access to my PC ). On Guard protection takes to long to shut down. It tries to install site blocking guard in 16 languages, I speak one (English) I recommend "Ashampoo Anti-Spyware v2 and "Spy Emergency 2007) as much better options to this program.

"After two years not one problem"

    January 16, 2008  |   By pupster40

    Version: Spyware Doctor 5.5

    Pros

It is one of the easiest packages to install and use, it also provides great protection. The program is upgraded almost on a daily basis. I have not had any issues effecting, other programs in the two years that it has been on my computer, and I have a CAD package, MS Office2003 small business, and a large number of games.

"Can't use current version on older system"

    January 13, 2008  |

    Version: Spyware Doctor 5.5

    Pros

Spyware Doctor was a very effective program to use until latest version was released.

    Cons

Latest versions slows down my computer so it cannot function at all. If I could , I would revert to the previous version. Unless this problem is rectified I will let my subscription expire.

"SD 5.5. is A Bloated System Hog"

    January 11, 2008  |   By galaxy12345

    Version: Spyware Doctor 5.5

    Cons

SD 5.5. is a total system hog. PC TOOLS makes Buggy Products. They do not care about your PC, they care Only about getting your money. There are many other better products (some of them are free) than this one.
