Version: Spyware Doctor 2010 7.0.0.508
"Used to be the best (3yrs), now too resource intensive."
Pros: One of the strongest antimalware tools available, and can prevent infections and clean up existing infections as well as any package. Pretty interface and easy to understand. Strong Heuristics, Rootkit Protection, Safe!
Cons: 1. SLOW!
Summary: I have been a big proponent of SD since it came out, and I have recommended it 100+ times and installed it on 20+ customer?s machines. I have been watching SD get slower and more system intensive for the last year or so, I have held on because as I said above it is simply one of the strongest/safest packages I have found.
Ex: On a XP ProSP3/FX60/2GB DDR/SATA2 Box it takes ~30 seconds for Firefox to startup, 1-3 seconds to change pages/open a new tab.
2. Subscription Based
3. Expensive
Last night I downloaded and installed the new Spyware Doctor 2010. As I stated above, on a fairly strong x2 with 2GB of ram and updated XP Pro, I am seeing about a 30+ seconds for Firefox to start from a clean reboot and between a second to three seconds for normally fast pages to load. Before the update but with the older version of Spyware Doctor running I was seeing ~3-5 seconds for Firefox to load, and ~100-500 milliseconds (.1 to .5 seconds) for page loads and new tabs. On the bright side, the older SD would range from 20MB to 130MB system memory usage, the new 2010 version seems to be ranging between 10MB and 50MB (as measured by Task Manager).
To be honest I don?t understand what PC Tools is thinking, they launched and became a premier anti-AV/Malware provider when companies like Symantec & McAfee products had grown too bloated and expensive.
Anyway I would have given it three stars but I wanted to offset the glowing (I think shill) reviews above.

I need to amend one point, I said Spyware Doctor was expensive, while I paid $29.95 this last year I noticed that they have dropped the price to $25.00.
