"Fifty fifty"
Version: Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.6.2
Pros
Installed easily enough, and worked great.
Cons
Had to uninstall it do to my system turning into glue, things would not run for long periods. The same on 5 different computers.
Summary
I like the easy parts, price was right and it did what was advertised.
The bad, was a system slow down so drastic that I had to uninstall it.
I don't see myself installing it when I need it, knowing that I'm going to have to uninstall it. -
"works good -have had it for a long time"
Version: Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.6.2
Pros
i like the immunizer and the scanner is usually up to date-the team that put this together need a round of Timmies.
Cons
wonder just how many worms it catches if any. It runs conflicts with Ad-Aware which are fixable with some work. I wish it would catch more worm -because once it has caught all it can then what.
Summary
It is a little hard for the novice to use -but I love it for tech work. I wish they would make it a back door guardian and then wow the world as windows xp is really in trouble now with what Confliker might do.

"It works and its Free!"

Cons
i didnt find anything wrong.

"still the greatest free spyware catcher/remover"
Version: Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.6.2
Pros
have been using this program on both of my computers for over a year on one and 3 years on the other, update the programs as new features are added and do weakly checks for updates. Great program and easy to use, always vigilent.
Cons
non that I have found yet.
Summary
requires no action to run as it continually monitors programs being installed, modified, and other items within the system and on the daily scan checks and notifies of any abnormalities and asks if I want to remove, or repair anything it might happen to catch that isn't part of a normal task.

"Anti spy ware competent and non complicated for a user"
Version: Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.6.2
Pros
Everything about it is reassuring, it does what is expected from it. There is a no nonsense way of doing anti spy work. Its interface is friendly and yet corporate.
Cons
No, I didn't face any problem yet. Did you?
Summary
Spy, virus, malware a surfer is always expected to be vigilant and then we've the good fortune to use free anti spy ware with confidence. I recommend it to you.

"lastest version = buggy"
Version: Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.6.2
Pros
I've used this program for years. I've never had any problems and have been very happy with the scans and the tools for tweaking and examining my system. However...
Cons
The updater in version 1.6.2 keeps freezing and/or not updating, leaving me without the latest protection.
Summary
Once the update problems are fixed, I'll continue using and recommending this simple but very useful application. They need to fix it soon, though.

"Excellent and Free!"
Version: Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.6.2
Pros
As a computer tech, I'ved used Spybot for years with great results. This is partly because it works, and partly because it is free to both home and business. Removes "Antivirus XP/2009" bug and others that A/V software won't. No ads, no bull.
Cons
As with any free product, you can expect very little tech support. There may even be better products out there, but none that are free.
Summary
The "Spybot + AVG Free + Windows Updates" combination has never failed me. But nothing will protect you if you don't download updates and maintain it. Spybot will not auto-update, so you need to take an active role in protecting your computer (something you should be doing anyway).
Spybot is on-demand, and will not hog your memory space like so many other products. It incorporates a blocked sites list using your browser ("immunizations"), and if you are particularly "unsafe" surfer, I would recommend using the TeaTimer plug-in. TeaTimer is annoying, but it will prevent automatic changes to your registry.
As always, safe habits are the best way to prevent infections. -
"Excellent product, but there's better out there."
Version: Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.6.2
Pros
Good database, friendly interface, good for people who have limited experience of comps, made by a good company that I trust
Cons
It doesn't seem to be getting updated anymore and its pissing me off.
Summary
Great product, THANK GOD it's free! Saved my XP Home (original) but I eventually had to throw it out.

"i love it its great"
Version: Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.6.2

Cons

"be careful of spyware. a program copies spybot."
Version: Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.6.2
Pros
if you download the correct one i do like the program. but it is not worth taking the chance because the other one is so close. in fact i clicked on the link given to me by cnet and it turned out to be malware.
Cons
the malware gave my computer a virus and i had so much trouble getting it off. i had to pay dell $179 to talk to a representative to help me and was told that they might charge me another $129 for virus removal. i wouldn't try to download it again.
Summary
I would ask cnet to be more careful with the links that they provide and double check that they are correct so people won't have trouble like i have had with this program.
