SpiteNet: Spite and Malice presents an interesting mix of conventional solitaire and FreeCell that will test your luck, skill, and cunning, as well as your ability to tear yourself away from addictive gameplay. An easy-to-follow tutorial teaches you the basic concepts and strategies. Your opponent, a grizzled cowboy, offers witty remarks when he steals your move or makes a good play. If you get too annoyed with his cruel jabs, click his picture to give him a well-deserved slap in the face.

Along with that cathartic release, SpiteNet also offers numerous gameplay options, such as the number of players (up to four), a choice of sound files, rule variations, and a choice of backgrounds. To keep its file size small, SpiteNet has no soundtrack and few sound effects. The full version lets you play online against real opponents, although the demo disables this feature. We searched and searched for a valid reason not to give this humble game five stars, but we came up empty. If you're an avid card player, be sure to try SpiteNet. Gamers with addictive tendencies beware, though: you might end up playing this solitaire shootout for hours.

Not the same game I had before

Recently purchased ver. 10.0.0 I had previously purchased a previous version a couple years ago, This one is rigged in my opinion.
Summary
I slowed the speed down as low as it would go for both the cards and Spite I chose the peek option so I could see what was going on. The computer changed the value of cards when it needed them. Played the same card twice when there was on one of them. And consistently gets exactly the cards it needs every time. I get either all the same cards such as all threes or I get low cards consistently when I need a high one. It is no fun watching the computer drawing cards and playing them and I can't play at all.
Computer Simulation of Spite and Malice

Addictive computer simulation of the old card game Spite and Malice (similar to the commercial card game Skip-Bo).

Difficult to win at least at first.
Summary
Contrary to other reviews, the computer does NOT cheat at this game and I proved it. I put the game in cheat mode and slowed down the animation as much as I could. I then saw what the computer was doing. The computer was NOT cheating, but was using a very sophisticated and very devious algorithm. I then put the game back in normal mode with normal animation. I then used (as close as possible) the computer's own devious algorithm against it. I then played 50 games. I won 20 of them. I therefore proved that the computer was NOT cheating but instead was using a very sophisticated and very devious algorith, If you play it --- good luck!! Updated on Jul 6, 2012Correction: I won 22 out of 50.

Summary
I've had this for several years and have finally gotten tired of losing more than 80% of the time. I now use Net Spite and Malice which seems to be fairer.
10.0 does not automatically hide hold cards

It is my favorite time passer.

The older version automatically hid the hold card popup...you can press the space bar, but, if that doesn't work you have to close it manually...that is a nuicance
Summary
I have been using Spite and Malice for more years than I remember and this is the first update that was not an improvement...but, that's okay...it is still my favorite game and I enjoy "slapping" Spite.

I would like it better if it was random instead of selected. The games are set for you to either win or lose, and I don't like that about it.

Like I said above, for the most part I like the game except for the fact that each game is fixed for you to win or lose. I'd rather they be random selection and let the cards fall where they may, so to speak. Updated on Aug 26, 2011I've always liked it, and still do, but it could be better.

I love this game and have played it for years, so I know how to play, but with this game the computer WINS every single time and gets most of the wild cards!! I wouLd not buy this game!!! Does anyone know where you can go and play a fair game?

Great graphics, interface and help menus. Plenty of options.

Like most card games, AI cheats big time. AI seems to get 75% of the wild cards and almost every card it needs. As a previous reviewer said, it has nothing to do with skill. Did not buy it for this reason.
