"Great program! Toolbar OPTIONAL!"
Version: Spesoft Audio Converter 2.3
Pros
This program converts to and from nearly any format you can throw at it; except to MIDI, of course, since MIDI's don't have waveforms. It's a clean, efficient, small program and is not very resource intensive like some.
Cons
There is a toolbar that installs automatically with the program, but it can be disabled and uninstalled in one two clicks the next time you launch your browser. A small price to pay for such a powerful program!
Summary
Spesoft Audio Converter was even able to convert some raw music data I had into WAV format, even though the format I converted from was not officially supported. It's very useful! The new version can even convert sound from video files, an extremely useful feature.

"cancelled download toolbar forced"
Version: Spesoft Audio Converter 2.3
Pros
not going to download so don't know
Cons
You can't download on IE8 without a toolbar being put on.
Summary
Waste of time.

"Crashed Every Time I Tried to Run the Program"
Version: Spesoft Audio Converter 2.3
Pros
Unknown. Didn't work.
Cons
Besides the toolbar, the program merely crashed, literally every time it was started.
Summary
I would be nice if the program did something successfully besides install a toolbar.

"So Easy to use"
Version: Spesoft Audio Converter 2.3
Pros
I like the choices up front, especially being able to convert an entire cd to mp3 with one click
Cons
no real cons, it is very simple though, no bells and whistles

"Reqires file format knowledge to make best use of it."
Version: Spesoft Audio Converter 2.3
Pros
For a free file format converter it does the job very well. Doing files in batches makes it very quick to use. With basic knowledge of file extensions you can convert files easily.
Cons
The addin browser is a pain though you can disable it tools drop down. Then delete it from the "add or remove programs folder."
Summary
I like spesoft programs and have used other free programs from them before. This program just continues the tradition. Wit a little bit of knowledge you can make good use of this program and it does what it is asked to do. It also kept the file names while it was changing the file extension.

"This IS very COOL"
Version: Spesoft Audio Converter 2.3
Pros
Easy to use, gets the job done and the batch jobs make things quick.
Cons
Could be more attractive and all entries on one page.
Summary
If you like music and you want different formats as well as converting a whole file...You NEED this!
As for a tool bar that I see others comment on; I didn't see a choice for a tool bar either. I use Google Chrome and no tool bar was added. I checked my IE and there was no toolbar added. I can remove any link on my desktop toolbar. For me, I don't see an issue and my anti virus doesn't detect any issues.

"Didn't even offer to do what I needed"

"Installation requires toolbar"
Version: Spesoft Audio Converter 2.3
Pros
None, it wants to hijack your search engine
Cons
None, it wants to hijack your search engine
Summary
During the installation process it asks you if you want to install it's proprietary toolbar. There is no option not to do so.
I dislike programs which try to hijack your settings in this manner. Accordingly I quit the installation process and cannot comment on the program itself, other than to say I distrust software which attempts this type of hijack. -
"Required toolbar and then didn't convert my audio files"
Version: Spesoft Audio Converter 2.3
Pros
None at this point.
Cons
It required me to install some search toolbar
Requires me to select the format I wish to convert from.
And then created a Windows error multiple times with no explanation.Summary
Don't bother.

"Very fast and so many options!"
Version: Spesoft Audio Converter 2.20
Pros
- many, many audio formats to choose from
- very fast
- simple to useCons
- doesn't understand characters (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc)
- won't convert if the name of file contains such characters
- if there are these characters in the ID3 tags, they're replaced with question marks - ?Summary
Above all, its a VERY good program considering its absolutely free.
The character problem won't really matter if you don't have files like that. Although I'm guessing it will also happen to the other symbols too (hearts, stars, etc)
In that case, you can just rename the file and you're good to go!
