"Indispensable proofreading tool."
Version: Speakonia 1.3.5
Pros
Easy to install and use. I use it for proofreading: invoke Speakonia and open your favorite word processor. Highlight some text and copy it to the clipboard (ctrl-C). Speakonia will read it aloud to you. It's magic!
Cons
Voices are a bit metallic, but not bad. I like the voice of "Mary" (she has a bit of a Marlene Dietrich quality to me :-) The only caveat is that Mary will continue to speak aloud while you perform cut & paste editing.
Summary
If you write, you'll find text-to-speech an indispensable proofreading tool. Things that spell-checking (even grammar-checking) can't find, jump right out when this software reads your words back to you. Try it out and you'll see!

"Didn't install correctly, because I wasn't admin"
Version: Speakonia 1.3.5
Pros
It looks cool, but i have nothing more to say on pros
Cons
It didn't even download correctly. You need to be Admin to install it correctly. If you are not admin, it wont install the voices.

"It's good and convenient"
Version: Speakonia 1.3.5
Pros
You can conveniently let it read what you want to hear by copying that particular sentence/word or paste the whole passage in the main box of this program. The sound was okay, you can adjust the pitch, volume, etc.
Cons
There should be more choices for the speech characters.
Summary
Overall, it's a cool text to speech software, you can try it out :)

"It is great worth and the download"
Version: Speakonia 1.3.5
Pros
the voices are great and they have good punctation. And it comes with a lot of different voices. and i like you can change the pitch of the voices. this is a great product.
Cons
i didn't like it took up alot of room on my PC. for me there wasn't alot to dislike.
Summary
the reason i don't like it is because it took up room and now my PC runs a little slower.I like it because when it reads to me it has correct pronounciation and they are life like voices. i would definately recomend this to someone.

"The best solution for web page automation"
Version: Speakonia 1.3.5
Pros
Provides unfettered access via the clipboard (unlike Talking Clipboard that ignores duplicated pastes). Having downloaded the Microsoft voices the speech is the same as any other product I have tried and changing the Lexicon is easy.
Cons
As with other products there is no option to control the app from commands embedded in text pasted to the clipboard. Would like to be able to <stop>, <start>, <close>, change voices dynamically and know (via clipboard) when current block is over.
Summary
As a developer of highly interactive web sites I'm surprised there isn't more support for speech in the HTML specifications. Pasting onto the clipboard is fine, and I really appreciate Chris Schuster's Speakonia application, but it would be better to have something integrated within the browser that allows ONLY certain text to be spoken because apps simply monitor the clipboard, so anything pasted gets spoken. This could extend to the observation of events so that any text within the object being monitored is spoken automatically onmouseover and terminated onmouseout. If anyone wants help implementing speech on the web drop me a line - dean (at) louistalboys.com
I tried TextAloud and found it better than Talking Clipboard but really overpriced compared to Speakonia. It did the job but includes far more than I need for simple processing of the clipboard. Also, I couldn't find a Lexicon. On the subject of Speakonia, repeated requests to Chris Schuster for help on the product have yielded nothing. OK, it's free, but it's not a major system requiring a team of support technicians. If you're not going to provide support write the app as open source.
