CNET Editors' review
Souptoys is a fun and imaginative game in which users manipulate all kinds of onscreen toys with delightful effects. In a world where violent children's games are all too common, Souptoys is refreshingly innocent and surprisingly fun.
Souptoys isn't a game as much as a set of onscreen toys, as is suggested by the fact that its components are kept in a virtual toy box. What will you find in the toy box? Anything you'd find in a real one: balls, stuffed animals, blocks, roller skates, and much more, plus a few things you probably wouldn't find, like gears and cannons. All of these behave as they would in real life; drop a basketball from the top of the screen and watch it bounce. Fling a roller skate across the bottom and it bumps into the edge of the screen. Users can have hours of fun manipulating various objects around the screen, but where the game really shines is with its playsets, 124 different compilations of toys that can be opened independently. Many of these consists of Rube Goldberg-style contraptions, wherein, for example, a ball rolls down a ramp and pushes a car into a cannon, which then fires the car onto a ledge where it knocks another ball into a bucket that's tied to a balloon...and so on. Every part of each playset can be manipulated, letting users experiment with all kinds of configurations. A brief built-in Help file describes the program's basic functions, but the whole point of the game is experimentation.
Souptoys is free. It installs desktop icons without asking and leaves a folder behind upon removal. We recommend this game to all users.

"Great fun, free, and no spyware!"
Version: Souptoys 1.6.0.8
Pros
Fun for everyone, unlimited possibilities. Inspires creativity and experimentation, as well as nurturing an interest in physics.
Cons
Needs a fairly powerful computer to put a lot of objects on the screen, but that's all - everything else is great about it.
Summary
We found this on accident ages ago, and my kids love it. Truthfully, I love it, it's awesome. I wish I had a game like this when I was younger. I'm not patient enough to make big complex machines, but you don't have to, as you can download pre-made playsets from their website.
I was very skeptical about this game being free when I found it, and assumed that there must be something funny going on, but after a few years of playing with it, I can assure you that it is nothing but what it appears to but, a very fun little application for everyone to enjoy. -

"Great and fun for all Ages"
Version: Souptoys 1.6.0.8
Pros
Its easy to understand, simple to manipulate the figures, easy to "pick up toys", sounds are great, interactions are realistic. Five kids ages 5 to 23 play this all the time.
Cons
We would love more sounds!
-
"Great for all the family"
Version: Souptoys 1.6.0.8
Pros
Great gizmo's, gadgets, creatures and characters to keep kids (and grown up kids) amused. It works, no crashing or freezing. Simple, but fun.
Cons
A day can disappear, when people become engrossed. Other con, trying to get people off the pc when playing this. :D Would say that it would be better if things could be turned / moved when creating things.
Summary
Recommend for homeschool families with younger primary school aged children. Some of it is just for fun, but found it useful for my son who is interested in making scientific inventions.

"fun and addictive little game"
Version: Souptoys 1.6.0.8
Pros
many combinations of toys to stack, when you add the stackable wheels, blocks, gears etc. It is more than just toys you open and play with
Cons
when moving the blocks and other pieces with your mouse, you cannot turn them to stand them up or lie them flat, you can only pick them up, drag, and drop. Would be much better if the arrow keys could let you turn the pieces
Summary
lots of fun, and hard to stop playing, even for me-a busy adult. Excellent for kids of all ages, the older the kid, the more complicated the building pieces they can use, and there is plenty for young children to do. This is a safe game, no internet connection needed to play, The graphics are very good too
