I like everything about this device. It was free to install. Very easy to install, I definitely would recommend this product to anyone who needs a new device or to ones that already have Sound Max to update their old one.

Tried this when I needed to replace the driver on my Dell Dimension 3000. Deleted the (remains of) the old one -- then this gave me an error message-- incompatible with your hardware. If you're inthe same situation go the Dell site and download the version from there--using your service tag.. That one will work. I agree. Cnet should post a warning.

"A Good Sound Card Driver"

This driver greatly expands the limits of the on board sound card that came with my mother board. It was easy to download and installed in a few seconds.
Cons
Sound schemes are pretty basic.

Cnet should not have advised software update. Instructions read to first remove existing drivers. New drivers would not install "audio driver files do not suport your computer hardware." Had to re-install from the original Intel motherboard CD.

the RPC Server is ALWAYS "Unavailable" , so i never have been able to use it
