Version: Sothink Web Video Downloader for Firefox 5.0.80812

"It's better than other stand alone youtube video savers"

by Holybride on January 27, 2009

Pros: Not like all other youtube video savers where you can only browse and save videos from certain websites, Sothink Web Video Downloader uses firefox to browse any websites in the world and download their videos right away from your firefox.

Cons: It saves it's downloading videos into temp files, so when you download huge videos (ex: 200mb) & it's time to save temp into flv, your firefox will freeze. DON'T CLOSE your firefox, don't ctrl+alt+del. Just wait, It's just compiling its temp into flv

Summary: Other youtube downloaders only allow you to browse and save videos from youtube or other lame websites.
But this software uses firefox to surf anywhere you want and save it right away from your firefox browser.
I use it everyday to download very huge workout videos.
    COOL!
And it's easier to use than those stand alone youtube downloaders.
    Believe me.

Let me give you a trick (only if you want to. If you don't to, it's ok, this software works anyway)

Do you see a "Video" button on the right top corner? click on it so a WINDOW (let's call it that way) will appear.

Then go back to firefox, visit a webpage containing any video you like.
Play the video so a NEW box out of nowhere suddenly appears telling you to save it to anywhere you like it.

If this box doesn't show up, delete your private data (from tools menu) and restart firefox and the WINDOW, and re-visit the webpage you love, suddenly the box will appear.

    - If you ignore / cancel the box, it will still be saved in the WINDOW in "pending".
    - If you save the video, it will be saved in the WINDOW in "downloading".
    - If the video has been downloaded, it will be saved in the WINDOW in "Completed".

When you choose to save a video, in firefox a tab will appear, you may close the tab if you want to, and you may close the video that you're downloading, it's still be downloaded anyway by the WINDOW.
    So don't worry.

After the video has been downloaded, you may delete it from the WINDOW in "Completed", but DON"T CHOOSE "also delete downloaded files".

    IMPORTANT:
If it's too big (such as 200 mb), you may stop the download process (USE RIGHT CLICK) because it will compile the temp into flv, and click start again to continue the downloading (USE RIGHT CLICK). Don't worry it will resume your download. I did this many times to prevent firefox freezes in the end of compiling completed temp into flv.

I use Sothink web video downloader to download workout videos which are usually above 60 mb. the largest was dance workout video which is 273.937kb. Huge right!
I believe I can download bigger videos if there is a website who provides it.

    Happy video downloading.
