"Good basic pdf to word converter"

    July 29, 2009  |   By charles_cope

Version: Some PDF to Word Converter 1.5

    Pros

I didn't find it nearly as bad as these other reviwers did. It converted rather better than some of the paid ones I've tried, such as Docsmartz, which is a real rip-off. . Free pdf, which I tried also, is not as good and a pain to install on Vista.

    Cons

Whatever they say, it doesn't really preserve much of the formatting. You really need Foxit PDF editor to do the job to a high standard, and that's not free (but good value compared with some).

    Summary

Better than adequate PDF converter with some limitations but very good for a free application. Some of the other paid for ones (such as Solid) actually crash the computer and cause mayhem in the registry.

    "unable to separate pages"

    December 16, 2008  |   By thejodbug

Version: Some PDF to Word Converter 1.4

    Pros

    Quick/fast

    Cons

The small PDF that I tried did not convert the pages properly, text over wrote each other so that all 5 pages were represented in Word on one page.
This solution doesn't work for me.

    Summary

Not able to use it for my needs

"Needs some more work on it"

    August 21, 2008  |   By hefaistion

Version: Some PDF to Word Converter 1.4

    Pros

Quick. I converted an illustrated 24 page, 700 kB pdf instruction manual (Foxit Reader = default, if that has any bearing) to a 30 page, 4.9 MB (!) Word doc. It is editable.

    Cons

    Pagination was not converted.
In most Word viewing modes parts of the text were doubled up on one another and other parts of a page were simply sliced off, although two editing modes looked perfectly normal.

    Summary

You can see the original pagination, but Word has its own.
Saving as a word doc and closing turned up that it was actually saved in RTF, and was then converted to Word format on opening again. Weird.
Still, it's better than converting to text format, and it is free.

"Weak on Delivery and heavy on bytes."

    August 14, 2008  |   By cogator

Version: Some PDF to Word Converter 1.4

    Pros

The program was very easy to use and has a very simple initial search for PDF files. It also works faster than other programs I have tried. For a free program it is quite good. Certainly worth considering if you need this type of software and are on a tight budget.

    Cons

While the program was easy to use and found the first of several PDF files quickly, it did not seem to have the capability for find any more after that. (For free, this still is not all that bad.)

While it worked pretty fast, it created a very cumbersome and much larger file. I used very small PDF files as examples to see what would happen. For instance; it took a small (250kb) PDF file and gave me a Word file that was quite large (300,000 kb) file. I have a large HDD so I could live with that, but the program failed to deliver an easily readable file. It got a lot of the straight typing converted perfectly, but had problems with headings, print next to graphics and different size fonts. Personally, this program did not meet my needs.
