Version: SmartFTP Client (32-bit) 3.0.1022.5
"Excellent program but very unreliable"
Pros: Just look at the screenshots, it is a full-featured FTP client unlike any other. GUI is generic so it takes a bit to get used to it, but very feature-rich. Was using it for some years.
Cons: The lame license change. Not suited for total FTP beginners.
Summary: Once an update is available it will stop working until you download it - very annoying.
But what shocked me as a user is that, it was presented as FREEWARE but it was never such - as the app forces updates, they just changed the licence at some N-th version forcing you to pay a fee (big one too) in order to continue using it. Simply put, it's a shareware with big evaluation perdiod and they just abused Freeware licence to sell the software by tricking users.
It was a fraud that we rarely see with freeware and even shareware software, shame. If you plan on buying this app, carefuly read the licence as the initial fee you'll pay might not be all you're going to pay them.
There are many methods to charge for a free or even open source programs but this one was the lamest.
However, giving it 5/5 because the software itself is really well done, besides you can always crack its update-check.
