"Still the Best Option for Business Users"

    September 28, 2010  |   By roxykat73

    Version: SmartDraw 2010 2010.12

    Pros

Agreed that professional designers might not appreciate the automation as much as someone with no graphics experience, but for the 99% of us that lack design training and experience, SmartDraw is the best option.

    Cons

Not a program for those who want the Adobe style drawing paradigm.

"Misses Mark. Solid Concept but Sloppy Execution."

    September 18, 2010  |   By TechMetier

    Version: SmartDraw 2010 2010.12

    Pros

SmartDraw's concept is a good one, which is why people continue to try it and this software firm survives on marginal execution with poor QA. On surface V.10 provides new templates/tools, but UI is subpar and how one navigates design process clunky.

    Cons

Upgraded hoping SD resolved prior issues, but experience from installation to UI is poor - tells you they've not listened to customer input. Regrett $99 upgrade - overpriced + doesn't deliver. CSvce clearly doesn't use product.- don't bother engaging

    Summary

There's such potential in the tool, but this company just doesn't seem to every quite get there with it. The saving grace would be if someone acquired this firm, and actually had the resources to fulfill on the promise. I'm a real customer, not a competitor's plant, who's plunked down their own green and used - or tried to use - SmartDraw for several years, but still find the design process, functionality and outcomes less than optimal.

There are just too many bizarre little Idiosyncrasies in the code. Most of the time I end up abadoning after several hours invested and end-up creating a work around via PowerPoint and other draw tools.

Moving through the online upgrade purchase and install process is frankly bizarre, and where you'd expect to find a data capture point or process forward, there is none. Their forte is also clearly not site design, because online customer experience is problematic from end-to-end. What should be simple - is not.

I read CNET editor reviews, and wonder how this product is getting this kind of response because it does not align with what real users will experience at all. Did the CNET editors get the special bug-free version or the step-by-step demo and not actually sit down to create a mind map or presentation for themselves?

"Versatile, multi-functional but bug support very poor"

    September 13, 2010  |   By Andy Theekson

    Version: SmartDraw 2010 2010.12

    Pros

Smartdraw is many applications within one application which makes it very versatile for lots of different drawing and desktop publishing work. I have used it for many years and am happy with it in all but one aspect (see cons).

    Cons

The main problem with this software is the lack of customer support when you get a problem. I have reported several major bugs over the years, one very recently and smartdraw just never respond no matter how many times you contact them.

    Summary

A good application with many features and functionality that works well most of the time. The main drawback is the poor customer support even to major bugs in the software. I recently reported a major error in smartdraws ability to accurately draw and dimension one simple rectangle within another rectangle. After weeks of waiting for them to respond to this bug report and several more attempts to conatct them through their own support desk I have given up. They simply do not respond and this is not the first time I have reported bugs in the software. So don't expect any help other than their FAQ page if you encounter a problem or bug within Smartdraw.

    "Great program, poor long-term support"

    August 29, 2010  |   By seenontya

    Version: SmartDraw 2010 2010.12

    Pros

It does what it states it will. Great visuals and saves time once you get through the learning curve.

    Cons

Poor long-term support. I purchased an earlier version and they no longer support it and won't let me re-download it. I paid over $200 for it.

    Summary

I purchased SmartDraw 5 for $212.90 in 2001. Guess what? They won't let me re-download the program and they no longer support it. So, you can expect what will happen should you purchase this program for $197 and expect support later on. You would think that paying this much for a program would guarantee support for the life of the program. Nope. With so many alternatives our there that are much less they should re-evaluate the support they give to customers willing to pay for the product after the trial period.

A representative from their company re-directed me to SmartdrawVP for $99 and told me that I was out of luck. I installed the program on an older machine and have no way of transferring it to my new rig without their support.

Stay away from this product unless you have a lot of disposable income.

"Counter intuitive & lacks basic functionality"

    August 11, 2010  |   By antonello_guidi

    Version: SmartDraw 2010 2010.12

    Pros

Supports an incredible number of chart options. Pretty graphics.

    Cons

Even though it looks good at first, you come to fine that this software is poorly implemented. It is counter intuitive, it lacks basic functionality, and it is extremely frustrating to use.

    Summary

I do not recommend this product at all especially after dealing with their customer service and support. They sound very hot headed and defensive of their product instead of trying to understand where their customers come from, and what they need from their product. Although the software has great potential they need to be a bit more humble and get back to basics by listening to feedback. I regret spending money with them and will never do so again.

"Bad marketing and Free Trial Spoof!"

    July 13, 2010  |   By RLEschler

    Version: SmartDraw 2010 2010.12

    Pros

Seemed easy but ended up wasting my time.

    Cons

I wasted over an hour developing an image to test and use for my "7-day FRee trial." When I tried uploading the image , it had a big stamp over the image so it can't be used. If they have to trick you into buying it, integrity and product are bad.

    Summary

Bad marketing = tricking people into having to buy = bad product and lack of integrity.

    "A bit confusing, but acceptable"

    June 17, 2010  |   By jsneeringer

    Version: SmartDraw 2010 2010.12

    Pros

I downloaded it to prepare for a remodeling job. It has a wide variety predefined graphics, and it got the job done. It seems to be very versatile -- able to handle a wide range of different types of drawings with a single tool.

    Cons

It's quite confusing to use. Ex:
    (1) Walls are 1" thick, and it let me select 4", but nothing changed
    (2) Rotation seems to be be relative to the original orientation, which you've long forgotten.
    (3) Horizontal vs. Vertical flips are weird.

    Summary

It works and is very versatile, but there must be better choices, especially for $200. I got my job done, so I didn't try alternatives.

"Unique software - Poor technical support"

    June 9, 2010  |   By f_donald

    Version: SmartDraw 2010 2010.12

    Pros

Unique software for template based visuals. Templates are easy to use. Rudimentary integration with Microsoft Office

    Cons

Poor technical support (very slow and inconsistent follow-up). Awkward adoption of Microsoft ribbon tool bar. Poor scaling and dimension control. Customizing templates, overall interface and saving is cumbersome. Increasingly poor value for cost.

    Summary

Recommended if it supports your needs but better options exist for professional graphic and presentations. Highly recommend the rial before purchasing and do not expect professional technical support and timely follow-up (i.e., have owned three versions and support requests are typically unanswered or require multiple attempts).

"Don't waste your time with this one."

    May 11, 2010  |   By MikeSargent1

    Version: SmartDraw 2010 2010.12

    Pros

It was easy to use and exactly what I was looking for.

    Cons

You have to save to file continuously. You can't just save your work in progress as you go. Software crashed each time the draw line feature was used. Waste of time.
