Version: Smart Spidey Professional 1
"Just way too cool! Simple, beautiful site indexing, crawling, search generator"
Pros: How it works: Install and start Smart Spidey (I used the free version but the pro version is very affordable) on your pc. Type in the url of your website. Select whether you want the generated engine to be in ASP, PHP or JSP. I chose ASP because my site is on a Windows host. Click the 'Index' tab and Smart Spidey crawls your website the way a search engine does. Then click the 'Build' tab and it generates all the script pages, including an Access database if you use the ASP option. Upload those generated files and your site search engine is set to go! VERY cool!

Pros: The program is simple to use. Setup and configuration is easy. Integration into the website was hassle-free.
Cons: The free version actually worked better than the "professional" version. Creating entry points using folders other than the root with the "professional" version does not work. Using the ASP / Access option, crawling beyond the root level, at least with asp pages, results in database records having null values for titles and content, meaning those items are not included in search results. Specifying individual files helps but that pretty much defeats the purpose of a crawler. This Java applet is unpredectable and occasionally freezes. Since configuration file paths are not stored, you have to browse to your config file each time the program is re-launched. Due to improper crawling as described and frequent program freezes, I cannot recommend this product.
