CNET Editors' review
This absolutely standard, yet free pop-up blocker, worked quite well in our tests, but like many of its brethren, it is powerless against floating pop-ups. Smart Popup Blocker indicates its presence with a system-tray icon and will blink or emit a gunshot sound when eliminating a pop-up ad. If you occasionally want pop-ups from certain sites, you can temporarily disable the utility by holding the Ctrl key or by adding the URL to the Allowed list. However, we were somewhat disenchanted to discover Smart Popup Blocker works only with Internet Explorer. However, though the program takes more PC resources than we'd like, it didn't slow down computer use and Web surfing in our tests. The application also has a privacy feature that deletes cookies. If you don't need a full range of features for pop-up protection, this application will certainly do.Publisher's Description
From Smartsoft Tech:
Smart Popup Blocker can intelligently block pop-up ads and messenger pop-up spam, and speed Internet Explorer by optimizing settings. It also cleans cookies and guards your default Internet Explorer home page. The application resides in the system tray, works as an add-on of the IE browser, and automatically starts when you start up Internet Explorer.
Version 1.20 can block VBScript pop-ups.

"FireFox not Supported"
Version: Smart Popup Blocker 1.2
Pros
Sounds good enough in theory.
Cons
As the program only supports the Internet Explorer (IE) - and IE is fraught with problems - supporting only IE would seem to be a major limitation on an otherwise good concept.
Summary
For this to be considered, the program needs to support other major browsers, not just the worst of the bunch.

"Blocks Weather Exchange Pop-Ups"
Version: Smart Popup Blocker 1.2
Pros
Blocks annoying and intrusive pop-ups and makes a noise to let me know the pop-up was blocked
Cons
Only works with IE
Summary
I use a program called Weather Exchange while I am driving my 18 wheeler. The constant pop-ups from this program are annoying and intrusive and downright dangerous because I need to deal with them while I am driving. This program effectively handles those pop-ups so I can keep my hands on the wheel and my eyes on the road. I have changed the settings to make a gunshot noise when a pop-up is blocked and that never ceases to amuse me (Simple minds, simple pleasures!). But actually the feedback sound is important because there will be times when you don't want a pop-up blocked. When this happens you can easily change the settings from the task bar.

"IE Support ONLY? It is 2011 Now People!"
Version: Smart Popup Blocker 1.2
Pros
I am so sorry but it would be disingenuous for me to go on about any apparent 'benefits' to be had by using this in Internet Explorer as, the lack of other browser support means that the program fails at the VERY FIRST hurdle.
Cons
No browser support.
I refuse to accept IE as a browser that should be placed as the default in software like this. Granted, IE probably gets more popups thrown at it, as well as other nasty stuff but for this program NOT to support FIREFOX..? Poor!Summary
The developer needs to get into the times we are in and unfortunately, a free offering is not always a welcome one. Not if it may endanger you.
I repair PCs and the number of times it has been an IE related issue where Firefox would have helped. Programs like this are not helping those older people, mothers, grannies, the folk you love and the folk that, at Xmas especially, want you to fix their PCs until they are running like new again...as they really have no idea how to do very much beyond sending an email and using youtube...so they benefit from using a browser such as Firefox or even Chrome. It really IS more secure! (I always set Firefox up securely with addons too for them).
Please add support for other browsers! -
"Beware of this program!!"
Version: Smart Popup Blocker 1.2
Pros
Seems to block many pop ups but then trojan dedected by Avira virus scan.
Cons
Has a trojan virus
Summary
Threat level on this virus was low but Avira still removed it by full removal of entire program. However had hard time removing left over parts of this program. Use at your own risk.

"Works well for me"
Version: Smart Popup Blocker 1.2
Pros
I run WinXP SP3 and IE8. Smart PopUp Blocker V 1.20 installed quickly and easily and it works well. It doesn't seem to slow anything down.
Cons
For me it gets most, but not all popups. I wish it had a Blacklist or other easy way to add the popups it doesn't get.
Summary
It does a good job, for me, better than WinXP's built in free blocker. I wish there were some way to permanently remove an ad that slips through its defenses. Too bad it only works with Internet Explorer.

"Works with IE."

Cons
Doesn't work with Firefox.
Summary
I use Firefox.

"Excellent product"
Version: Smart Popup Blocker 1.2
Pros
I was plagued with popups even while using my Windows popup blocker and the Mozilla. No more. When I got them they would flash then stay open in tray. Now they don't open period! I highly recommend SPB.
Cons
None I can see so far. Had it about a week now.
Summary
Works for me, exceptionally well!!! Thank you CNET, Denise

"Nothing worth writing about"
Version: Smart Popup Blocker 1.2
Pros
Works on some pop ups-Yeah i know really helpful huh ?
Cons
Haven't noticed a huge drop in my normal pop ups that come up .
Summary
I already have decent protection and was looking for better but haven't noticed anything different in the amount of already annoying advertisements.(As if that's going to make people buy something) Yes lets **** people off to buy things !! .From what Ive noticed after my install it doesn't load up like normal programs which is either a faulty program or that's the way it operates-silently in the background.Cant say Im doing jumping back-flips over this one.I uninstalled it to check and see what the difference if any was and found none.So Im going to once more uninstall because its just taking up space.
