"A Very Pleasant Surprise!"
SmadAV has a very easy install. If I remember correct, about 4 clicks.
This is very light on resources. I have a memory monitor that shows the percent of memory being used. When I ran this for the first time I couldn't believe my eyes! The monitor didn't budge! It has not affected my computers performance in any way, not even start-up time.
It is really intuitive as far as running scans and the like. I really don't think a novice would even need a help file.
This isn't just an on demand scanner, it has real time protection.
It really does work very well with my primary antivirus, Roboscan. There has never been a conflict between the two. It's a beautiful thing really.
It looks like puke from the movie 'The Exorcist'.
It has no scheduled scan function, not even the pro version.
It looks like something found in a baby's diaper.
There is no auto update in the free version.
Did I mention It's really, really ugly?
This is a great piece of software for all the pros I mentioned above.
I have had problems with some so called second layer protection in the past. Many claim to be compatible with other AV's but are actually only so with a limited number of them. I tried this with several and no issues with any of them. I am pretty amazed how well this works with such few resources used. If SmadAV would include a scheduled scan function in it's pro version I would buy it yesterday! Until then I'll use the free version happily.
