    "Laughable rubbish"

    March 20, 2014  |   By longtalker

    Version: Skype 6.14.32.104

    Pros

Has screen sharing, but even that is now being phased out

    Cons

Skype is an unbeliavably unstable and amateurish piece of software, given how widespread it is and how much is being invested in it. On both Windows and Android it performs execrably in terms of message delivery, offline pager-type messages and customised visibility (selective invisibility).

    Summary

Comically bad software. Very glad Gmail now has reliable video in addition to voice chat so I can ditch Skype for good. It definitely isn't going to improve nearly enough as it should to make me reconsider using it.

"Even my gran can use it, simple yet revolutionary."

    February 23, 2014  |   By Tinnako

    Version: Skype 6.14.32.104

    Pros

    - Very easy to use.
    - You can make it start on start up, and save your details so you rarely have to log in.

This is worth mentioning because it has real potential in reaching people. I have managed to help multiple elderly and/or very tech illiterate relatives (who don't even really speak English) to use Skype, without problem.

    Cons

    - when the connection on either side is bad, skype can be laggy and unpleasant to use, especially until you've established all the hardware works properly.

    - if you're signing in with hotmail account, it's more likely to sign you out of your devices. And you have to click through a few times before you can sign in, which is a minus if users are not very tech literate. This is an unneccessary barrier to signing in, and hotmail users should be better integrated when it comes to signing in.

    - The diagnostic stuff is still beyond my relatives, so any simplification would no doubt increase Skype's appeal. However, it's functional and not difficult for most users. There is a lot of potential if they make it a little more user-friendly.

    Summary

Simple to use, which makes it manageable even for users without much computer experience. If they really want to tap into the 'elderly relative' market, which would be an excellent idea, they could make it even easier to use.
