Version: Sins of a Solar Empire demo
"A job well done"
Pros: Vast expanse of space for the battlefield, makes the average RTS map look like cheese. Runs amazingly well on low end systems even when the graphics are at a respectable level. Smooth gameplay, pleasant music and nice effects.
Cons: Explosions aren't always the best close up, but look fine from afar.
Summary: I came across Sins in Gamestation whilst inquiring about Xbox 360 repairs. That prompted me to get the demo and I have to say Sins is very surprising. To run game fine you generally need a good PC with more than one core (in my opinion) and a good selection of cards and drivers. I'm playing on a mid range laptop and the graphics, video settings in game etc are all just below their highest values and it looks fantastic.
You will understand how easy it is appreciate this when you start the first game, and zoom in from solar system view right up to the ship you just built without any lag, glitches what so ever. Every other RTS has this drilled into it at some points but Sins never gives over. Once you have done that, sending a scout over to another planet to find its inhabited with pirate raiders isn't great. However just click 'retreat' and your ship(s) will take the shortest route to the nearest friendly system. Then you can build a few more ships and watch a glorious battle take place, capture the planet and do it again.
To some that may seem repetitive. It can be I'll admit but that's the general focuss aside from improving your economy, tech and allies. Theres a lot to learn but it's quick to grasp.
I could go on all day but considering my first game took me 7 hours, I'll finish now. Get the demo and if you like it, get the game.
