It really doesn't have any. If it works for you it's great; if not, then of course you'll be unhappy. I hope it's the former and not the latter for you.
Summary
After upgrading my Dell Inspiron 1420 from Vista to Windows 7 the audio on my laptop was no longer working. I went to the Dell website and downloaded the latest Sigmatel audio driver. It immediately kicked out an error indicating the driver was the wrong one for my computer.
Frustrated, I decided to search around the internet and thank goodness I found this one here (version R167846.EXE 9/20/2007). I downloaded and installed it and my PCs audio is now working perfectly!
You would think the newer Dell approved version (version R171789.exe from 12/20/2007) would work, but it doesn't. Down grade to this older version and it will more than likely work for you.
By the way, the older R167846.EXE Sigmatel Audio Driver is on the Dell website, I just overlooked it, just click on previous versions link.
Please note: There are four versions available at the Dell website. So, if you're having problems with your Sigmatel audio driver, I would try them all. -

If it worked, I'd be ecstatic because my HDMI digital 5.1 audio hasn't worked for 5 months since the Sony update.

Attempted installation however an error prevented installation from completing ("ExitError: Error = Device Object not present, restart the system and run setup again.")
I restarted and ran setup again, same problem. Any help would be appreciated!Summary
Others have had success with this, so there must be something I'm missing. I've also tried updating the driver directly using the INF file but I receive a Windows error message stating "A device attached to the system is not functioning."

I have a Sony VGN-FZ460E. After Upgrading to Windows 7, HDMI Audio did not work. I had to use external speakers.

Finally after almost a year, WITHOUT Sony support, these drivers worked like a champ. Bottom line. You willl have to downgrade your driver to get this to work. I tried the Vista Drivers for sony but they did not work. These are Older drivers from Dell, and they work for my Sony. Who would think. Thanks CNET
