"doesn't like Win 7 x64"
Version: Don't Panic 126.96.36.199
couldn't get it to work on Win 7 x64.
I downloaded v. 188.8.131.52 (a very old version that's been frequently updated -- don't know why cnet only has this version.) At launch, program offered to install newest version (3.xx) which downloaded and installed VERY fast.
Everything seemed fine until I got to the settings. You need to choose which apps will be hidden or force-closed, using a standard navigational process.
But when I navigated to the folder(s) for those apps, the program did not recognize any of them (the .exe versions). And if you can't choose the apps, the program is useless. Tried again with the original 184.108.40.206 version, and it had the same problem.
So I think the issue is 64-bit version of Win 7, because I assume the developers tested it against Win 7 32-bit. I haven't tried installing the program under compatibility mode (Vista or XP), so maybe that will work.
nice idea, but apparently no go for Win 7 x64.
"I paid and was never given my product code"
Version: Super Mouse Auto Clicker 4.0
Scammers! They don't give the product code. And support never responds back
"Neither free nor has problems"
Version: Winstep Xtreme 12.2
Taskbar superior as is NextStart
Expensive annual upgrades even though not needed.
Hard to Set Up
It was advertised as a free download so I installed it on my computer. Over a year later, it stopped working. Said I had to renew my subscription. I was never advised of that either before I downloaded the program or during installation. Although I had difficulty setting it up and parts of it never worked, I found it useful but not worth $20 a year. When I didn't resubscribe the program shut down and made a mess out of my desktop but I found ways to get around that and was able to get it to work. Nevertheless the program frequently shuts down when I click on an icon and I have to go through the process of getting it to work again. I would be willing to pay $20 for the program but on a subscription basis. It isn't worth it. It has too many problems.

"Can't ask for more!"
Version: NolaPro Free Accounting 5.0.10908
Is more than just a basic freebie, will actually run your business, lots of options like payroll, inventory, etc.
Some reports could use a bit of style updating and takes a little while to download because its pretty big in size.
Nice interface, good features, can't beat the price :-)
"Great product... with a little annoyances"
Version: Advanced SystemCare Free 18.104.22.1689
Keep your PC in tip top shape and finds lots of fixes other utility programs miss! Super value for a freebie!
Some of its included items are "pay only" but the worst problem is that ASC is always changing its interface! C'mon guys, get a style and stick with it!
Very good product; had to dock 1/2 star for a little cumbersome, inconsistent UI.
"Data not correct, trial version only"
Version: ezPayCheck Payroll Software 3.4.10
Glad I tried this trial version - it saved me money from buying the full product!
Poor support when I contacted them, only does rudimentary payroll, and only a TRIAL version, ugh.
Don't waste your time.
Version: Free WMV to MP4 Converter 1.0
No idea. I never got around to using the actual program, since I "rage uninstalled" after seeing the nonsense dumped onto my laptop during the install.
The installation process kept loading more and more adware onto my system. Want a few laughs? Install this piece of s--t and then go to Programs and Features and see all the additional trash dumped onto your system.
This kind of sewage gives software authors everywhere a bad name. Shame on CNET for degrading themselves with this kind of useless garbage.
"Great AV Product"
Version: Avast Free Antivirus 2014 2014.9.0.2021
Fast, efficient, doesn't overdo the interface.
Volume on verbal update could be toned down a little...
Excellent at what it does (keeps viruses off) and doesn't hound you to upgrade like many of its competitors!
"AVOID, AVOID, AVOID"
Version: Things 2.2.6
GREAT SOFTWARE. YOU WILL LOVE IT UNTIL YOU HAVE A PROBLEM.
ZERO CUSTOMER SUPPORT. They have no phone number. They don't answer emails, and they hang you out to dry. I was promised free updates and suddenly they no longer do that. The lastest update to version 4 is identical to prior versions. The only change is you need to repurchase. All I want to do is install the prior version on my new boot drive and I have been unable to get a copy of this. I was screwed by these people. I purchased version for my phone, and desktop and deeply regret trusting their integrity--they have non.
Go to their website and see if you can find a phone number. It is hard to even find an email address. Trust me, they will not respond. I'd like to visit their offices with 7 dozen eggs and show my appreciation while making a few gestures.
Please describe the problem you have with this software. This information will be sent to our editors for review.
