"The bees knees of music OCR software - beautiful."
Version: SharpEye 2.68.01
Pros
Using Sharpeye I can take a sheet of music have it scanned, read and transferred into a music program (I use Mozart) and playing through the computers speakers in under five minutes - brilliant. Personally I haven't found a better piece of kit to OCR music (and I've looked) - maybe a bit pricy - but it actually does what it says on the packet! I will admit if your source music is old, faded, handwritten and damaged then even Sharpeye won't help too much - but in general, using a standard scanner or a .tiff file (converted from a pdf file) and you're in business.
As a front end for a program like Mozart, Harmony Assistant and probably noteworthy - Sharpeye reduces working time from hours to minutes and improves accuracy to inhuman levels. Do I like this software - if you haven't guessed - the answer's YES - would I recommend it - YES. Sharpeye is one of Software's safest secrets - but for a musician it's better than a warm tankard of Whiskey on a winters night!Cons
It cannot read rubbish input material - but then, more often than not - I can't either. While it is easy to learn to use I would have liked some form of Manual - not to do what I can do - but to make sure I haven't missed any tricks of usage. The playback functions of the program are not wonderful BUT the transfer to Mozart (for instance) is easy and very quick.
And the biggest con of all is that I just can't do without it!Summary
In summary - a super, simple piece of kit to OCR music accurately with - even if you don't want to use it buy it and try it - I'm sure you'll be impressed enough to start learning music on any instrument you can find or afford.
