    "Greatest database software out there."

    by 1charliebrown on April 11, 2007

Pros: Pros? Everything. We'd been using Q&A for years, depending on two "flat" databases for our records. We yearned for a relational database software that we could easily migrate to and have all of our data transfer accurately. Sesame is IT! Cleaning up little items in our data was a breeze and Sesame's built-in Q&A Translating feature converted our records seamlessly. Merging the two primary databases was equally easy. The result? We had everything we wanted in less than a day after loading the software. A relational database that almost runs itself. Very intuitive. Resources? The Sesame support has been stellar when I needed a few qestions answered. The Sesame User Forum is fantastic. Very helpful people from Lantica employees and professional developers are always posting discoveries and answering questions. Without a doubt, the best customer service and support I've experienced from any company I've dealt with.

Cons: I am NOT a programmer. I'd never typed one line of Basic or any other code in my life. You do NOT needto program Sesame-we used Q&A for over a decade with no programming features in our databases. Once you investigate what programming can do, the fun begins. Sesame's streamiled "Sbasic" programming language allows you to do amazing things from popup windows, subforms to calculate totals, drop down lists and much more. I've programmed some nice features into our database. Be warned...the more you use Sesame, the more you want to add to enhance your programs; the programming features are almost endless. Even a novice such as myself can do wonders with Sesame. There are sample database and design files that you can actually use to get your programming "kick-started" if you have little experience in this area. "Cons"? If anything, Sesame gives me more than I expected. I need more hours in the day to play with it:)

"One of the best database programs I have ever used."

    by sfoda253 on February 2, 2007

Pros: In Q&A's time, it was an extremely flexible, superb database program which could be programmed and used by non-professional programmers. For the small business (but also for large ones as well) it was by far the most superb product for the least cash outlay. It did take some learning and patience to develop professional applications, but with some patience anybody could do it. Sesame not only incorporates the finest of Q&A while providing a transition from Q&A to Sesame, but takes it to dramatically higher levels of excellence with each release. I strongly recommend Sesame for ANYONE with a little patience who wants to be independent from the (usually arrogant and condescending) "Microsoft" types who charge a small fortune for their products, are usually too busy to fix problems in real time, and provide structured inflexible products which almost NEVER really fit a particular user's requirements. Sesame's staff provides almost instantaneous, professional support when you hit a snag, and in my opinion is the best support available today. With Sesame, you CAN build your own database, structured to YOUR precise needs, and it will be a database on par with anything on the market. And you can do it for a heck of a lot less money.

Cons: There's nothing I do not like. Sesame is evolving, and with each release the minor bugs of previous releases are fixed, and new capabilities are added regularly. It is just a superb product.

"Should definitely be considered when evaluating databases"

by SensibleBob on October 23, 2006

Pros: I could not let the previous review stand alone. I just did a KeyWord report this weekend. The 100 lines of code were provided by Lantica. Just pasted into Program Editor. I then only had to enter about 10 lines to customize it for my own needs. Report output was great!

Tech support helps instantly, but not needed for any bugs, product is very stable. I use Tech Support only for free assistance with COMPLEX designs. They definitely listen to users and respond almost instantly.

Current version 1.1.4 has no real bugs. Advance information on Version 2 shows that it will probably provide any features you might think are missing.

Check their forum for support examples.

Cons: Not a dislike, but maybe a feature shortage:

I would like to see improvements to ODBC type of connections with other applications.

"Great Product - Perfect for users new to databases or experienced Power users"

by RobScott on October 13, 2006

Pros: This product is easy to use right from the start. The Sesame Database Manager can be used to quickly create a basic database without any prior computer experience but also has the tools needed to create extremely advanced applications if you so desire. This product gives you the ability to enhance your database as your needs grow. The Customer support is second to none. There is a user forum (see company website) that the developers monitor and are always willing to offer assistance and help.

"Database, you will love to use. So simple, yet so powerful"

    by bnaik1 on May 3, 2007

Pros: One can use it immediately without any prior knowledge of programming. After little use, non-programmers will start programming like programmers. Great for small business owners, novice, hobbyists and professionals. Unbelievably great support, they will go out way to help people. If you have ever tried to use database and got discouraged, this is the one you want to look at to regain your confidence. The development team is always forward looking and proactive. This is a versatile product with great future and you are sure to grow with it. If you are a small business owner or professional, you will wonder where you would have been today if you come across such a product years ago. Love everything about this product.
