Serial Cloner is a molecular biology software. It provides tools with an intuitive interface that assists you in DNA cloning, sequence analysis and visualization. Serial Cloner has been developed to provide a light molecular biology software to both Macintosh and Windows users. Serial Cloner reads and write DNA Strider(tm)-compatible files and import and export files in the universal FASTA format (as well as in pDRAW32 format). Powerful graphical display tools and simple interfaces help the analysis and construction steps (adaptor, PCR, Gateway[tm] cloning) in a very intuitive way. Version 1.3 now adds a virtual cutter, a web browser with instant import of NCBI/EMBL entries and a silent restriction map together with other enhancements.
What's new in this version: The main enhancement is the possibility to define your own list of Features to be scanned for. A new interface has been developed that also allows to Import/Export Feature Collections. In addition, Features are now shown of the Sequence Map which was an often requested function. "Perfect if you used Strider. Highly functional"
Version: Serial Cloner 2.1
Pros
Flexible plasmid construction and management software. I previously used DNA strider. Unfortunately, Strider is Mac only. This is pc, mac, linux. Accepts Strider files with comments. The scan function is invaluable. Many other great features.
Cons
Sometimes a little slow but I can live with that.
Summary
A must have for the molecular biology lab. I recommend supporting this software for further development. Much easier to use than some of the expensive commercial software. Perfect if you previously use DNA Strider.

Easy to use. Nice graphics features.
Cons
I can't seem to figure out how to delete files from the system. Any suggestions? I'm working on a Mac. Dragging the file to the trash doesn't work. Selecting the file and hitting "delete" doesn't work either. Can someone help me with this?
Summary
Very happy with the program. It's helping to keep things organized. Haven't used the alignment program yet. I do like the features for mapping constructs. Can't give it 5 stars due to the fact that I can't figure out how to delete files.
