    "on the other hand...."

    March 5, 2008  |   By qaam

Note: Review below refers to registered, but FREE upload hosting services! All host's mentioned also supply unregistered free & paid-for services.

Kudos to Sendspace for the file size limit, which at 1.5gb is three times the limit for Megaupload & many times bigger than the Rapidshare limit (100mb or 300mb, depending on which Google hit you read). The interface is simple & easy to use & the uploads proceed without a hitch. Once uploaded the file details & links are shown on a separate page & there is also the option of receiving an e-mail containing the link . but.......

    ......on the other hand.......

the time limit for retaining files hosted by Sendspace is a paltry 7 days. In common with Rapidshare & Megaupload, this only applies if the link is 'inactive' (i.e. has not had any downloads), but the limit for both the other hosts is 90 days.

Megaupload also sends me an e-mail if a file is due for deletion, Sendspace does not. I've no idea if Rapidshare does as I've only used them as a downloader.

So my recommendation for any free users - use Megaupload, unless your file is too big, in which case Sendspace is the better deal. Rapidshare is probably fine to upload too, but I know from bitter experience that it is a begger to dowload from, so your chums & colleagues may not be pleased when attempting to do so!

Nice detailed review except for that according to Sendspace's faq: "We do not delete active files. We will host the file for an unlimited time, until it becomes inactive, in the case of sendspace Lite? uploaders, unless they have purchased file bandwidth for that file. A file becomes inactive if it has not been downloaded at least once during a 30 day period."

I have no affiliation to Sendspace, I'm just considering their services.
