This handy utility enhances the functionality of Windows' Task Manager by warning you about potential system threats.
Upon launch, Security Task Manager automatically scans your PC to find all running programs. It then displays information about each application in a sortable list, including name, CPU usage, size, manufacturer, and risk factor. Highlighting each entry gives you more detailed data on running processes, including a description of what it does and how much of a threat it poses to your system. If Security Task Manager finds a potentially malevolent program, you can remove or quarantine it.
Especially handy is the feature that automatically searches Google for information about a specific program with a single click. Though it doesn't offer a wide range of features, this program will be useful to those looking for an extra layer of system protection.
Publisher's description
From A. & M. Neuber :Security Task Manager displays detailed information about all running processes (applications, DLLs, BHOs, and services). For each process, it improves on Windows Task Manager, providing a security risk rating, a process description, file path, CPU usage graph, start time, embedded hidden functions (for example keyboard monitoring, autostart entry, and browser supervision or manipulation), and process type, such as visible window, systray program, DLL, and IE plug-in. The security risk rating indicates the likelihood of the process being potential spyware, malware, a Trojan, or keylogger. It also deletes traces of your Internet and computer activity, prevents keyboard input monitoring, and warns you when the registry is changed. This process viewer also recognizes stealth processes and virtual driver software hidden from the Windows Task Manager.

Version: Security Task Manager 1.7e
Pros: you can choose what you want running and what you want to stop, plus if you are not sure about something you can always quarantine it for a week or so then delete it if not needed or reinstall it if needed.
i like the fact that you have a risk meter so straight away you can forget about the low risk programs and concentrate on the others.:
it still can be used after the trial period but only one task at a time then you get prompt screen to purchase app..
Cons: ok sometimes it does give a high risk to a genuine program .. but then you can check it out, and if there is no or not enough info at there centre then there is an option to google search it.. once you have found out you can then change the risk ratting yourself..

Version: Security Task Manager 1.7e
"only for if you want to know about your computer, not need"
Pros: it tells everything that task manager does, and then more you will find out what is in those svchost.exe things and every other process inside of other processes, the security for all processes, and more

Version: Security Task Manager 1.7e
"No Help File = Useless Software"
Pros: It does show what is harmless and possibly harmless.
Cons: Microsoft states that there is no "supported" Help File available for this software. No help file = no support = useless software.

Version: Security Task Manager 1.7e
Pros: I like STM because it lets you see things at a glance, and actually makes an attempt to explain what each of the processes are instead of just saying "you don't need this".
Cons: It would be cool if STM would cover more included XP processes, and help turn off things that are not necessary - sort of like a service panel only better.
