"Caught a burglar!"

August 31, 2014  |  By RaviDeMateo

 |  Version: Security Monitor Pro 5.2

Pros

Installation was easy and quick. I have 5 cameras, all different models of TrendNet, Level One, Advidia, and HikVision. This is only software that supported all of them simultaneously. I love the interface, very intuitive.

Cons

Frame rate on the high resolution Hikvision camera could be better, but that might be a bandwidth limit of my wireless connection.

Summary

We caught a burglar prowling around our back yard. He saw my camera and moved onto the house across the street. I gave a copy of the recording to the police and they were able to identify and catch the burglar that broke into my neighbor's place! Most valuable software on my PC.

"The ONLY IP Camera Monitor that really works for me"

February 25, 2014  |  By rogermass

 |  Version: Security Monitor Pro 5.15

Pros

I have had NONE of the problems that other reviewers are complaining about and this is the ONLY program that is not only easy to setup but actually works flawlessly at least for me. It has all the features that I need and the software is well designed. I'm really picky and if I sing the praises of an application, it's good. I do have a high end modern PC and perhaps others are having problems because of their hardware.

Cons

I have had NO problems with this software

"Very Unreliable as Security Software"

January 18, 2014  |  By jedicnet

 |  Version: Security Monitor Pro 5.14

Pros

Idea is good, and when it works, it is okay.

Cons

Works for a day or two, then crashes with Runtime C++ errors, with no user-friendly exception handling. Badly designed program. I have paid for the software, and also for an update. Fed up of these errors and crashes. If you are serious about security, about this software and company.

Summary

Do NOT buy this software, and avoid the company. They sell unreliable products and updates, and charge more and more for junk updates.

Updated on Jan 18, 2014

Read '"avoid" this software and company' (in CONS above - CNET doesn't allow Edits, only updates).

"Junk, would give a -1 star if I could"

November 20, 2013  |  By dabent

 |  Version: Security Monitor Pro 5.13

Pros

Did not find any pros

Cons

Crashes, resource hog, cant get cam to broadcast 99% of the time, not real good for security as you have to be near the computer all the time to reset.
I spent hours on this program and found nothing worth $90. I did not find anything that would be worth $9.
Uninstalled, I will not buy

Summary

Save your money find a better program!!

"Excellent surveillance software"

July 23, 2013  |  By Adam_Berger

 |  Version: Security Monitor Pro 5.1

Pros

Intuitive interface, excellent camera support, fast tech support too.

Cons

Needs password protection to prevent the monitoring from being stopped by a user, better USB camera support (I am told both are coming in a future release).

Summary

I purchased this a few weeks ago and 6 of my cameras worked without issue. I had a newer model Wanscam that was not on the supported list so I filled out the camera request form. Got an answer within an hour and I provided temporary access to the new Wanscam. About 3 days later, I got an email that a new version was available and my camera was added! Downloaded the new version, and voila, new camera is online and recording. I use this for my office and small warehouse. The scheduling works well so I can keep the warehouse door on motion detection with an email alert all the time, and the front door on motion recording only at night. It is easily configured to restart when Windows does an update and in general works pretty well. Since this is installed on one of the PC's we use as a server, I would prefer that there is some password protection to turn off the monitoring, and I was told by a technician that that option will be available in one of the next releases. I also wanted to add a couple of old USB cameras, but had some issue with drivers. This might be because the camera drivers have been installed and uninstalled a bunch of times on this PC. All in all, a good piece of software.

"Customer support is terrible, product just ok."

July 13, 2013  |  By parv@rogers.com

 |  Version: Security Monitor Pro 5.1

Pros

Product is just ok and is expensive. Does what it say but the quality of the picture is low.

Cons

Customer service is terrible. They do not respond to any issues. I have sent them various emails and unable to get the registered product working after upgrading to v5.1.
I have wasted my money on this product ....

"Reliable, affordable protection for home and business"

February 14, 2013  |  By kfiore5137

 |  Version: Security Monitor Pro 5.04

Pros

A stable surveillance/security system with excellent notification options.

Cons

None that I have found yet

Summary

I've been using security monitor pro for several years at my home and my office. The new version 5 has been running on my Windows 7 and on a new Windows 8 PC for several weeks without even a hiccup. I just added two new cameras that weren't supported and tech support created a new version supporting my cameras within just a few days!
I have used many other software products, this one is highly recommended.

"Buggy, crash-prone, expensive"

December 22, 2012  |  By gnetwerker

 |  Version: Security Monitor Pro 5.02

Pros

The software supports a wide variety of cameras.

Cons

Security software should be able to run unattended for extended periods. On a virgin Win7 system with no other installed software, this program crashes every few days. Fortunately, I found a program that would restart it every time it crashed. It is also impossible to correctly set the motion sensitivity, or throttle the number of emails sent to a reasonable number. To add insult to injury, any mention of these problems on the software's support forum is deleted.

Summary

Use only in an attended environment, were you can restart the program as needed. Don't plan on using the motion-detection.
