"Sucks donkey ba&#!s"

October 11, 2008  |  By megarollman

 |  Version: Second Life 1.17.0.12

Pros

ummmm none.

Cons

Really bad graphics. Pay real money for items in a computer world? What a big rip off. This is more for those who need to get a life, hence the "game" title. Not a real game at all.

Summary

If you don't want to ever leave you computer then play it. Then you'll wind up with no life, no money (cause you spent it in the game), and eventually no job. Then you end up living on the streets. A true geek piece of software.

"Enjoyable, but..."

September 18, 2008  |  By RodoOsoki

 |  Version: Second Life 1.17.0.12

Pros

I am a member of this game, redownloading it onto my laptop. I always found this game enjoyable due to the lack of restraint within the game. Plenty of freedom, yet it's restricted because...

Cons

Linden to Dollar exchange is brutal... This aside, it's rather entertaining. Lag can be bothersome.

Summary

I am a member of Second Life. I have been for quite some time, because I absolutely love it. However, I am not a paying member. Why, you may ask? It's simply because I cannot afford to be. Second Life's ludicrous Linden costs a pretty penny, and I'm not exactly willing to pay it when the game lags so much. But, really, all you miss is some user-created content and land ownership, nothing that will affect your game too much. You can always find a 'job' if you need the Lindens...

Good game, over all.

"Gets Old, FAST"

August 09, 2008  |  By toddpeters

 |  Version: Second Life 1.17.0.12

Pros

The world is not bad if you don't want to socialize in real life (RL) or can't get out. After an accident I was on for hours as I was starved for social interactions. However, most people are not very social at all. In fact, many can be downright rude. Then there is the limited activities that one can really do. Many like to fight, but the game is really not created for that and thus the experience is much better if one purchased a game for such a means. The shopping, IMHO, is the only good thing about SL. However, not many people really care about what they look like. You'll get so many that stay with the standard skin (look) that it's all quite boring and one questions why they spend the money and time to look good. Well, if you get friends that like that kinda thing then you can show off to them. However, everyone can really get the same things so nobody is really that special or unique. Everyone wants to be beautiful. However, one of the things about being beautiful is how people treat you. When everyone has 6-pack abs or DD bust then there is nothing unique. I suppose if you are a 500 lb female gorilla then this is great to pretend you look beautiful.

Cons

Boring and lots of crashes.

"Good, but way to many downfalls: overall DONT PLAY THESE!"

June 24, 2008  |  By swbit

 |  Version: Second Life 1.17.0.12

Pros

Good friends management and teleporting and having groups is nice. You can build and create so these is open source kinda. Radio and TV and other media streams can be made and scripts can access other websites and severs over the net to make a better object in second life. A lot to do everyday. SL ( second life ) is free! or is it!? lol these is were all the bad starts...

Cons

here is a little linden ( sl money ) to usd money exchange...

100 lindens= around 0.90 cents usd

200 lindens= around 1 usd

400 lindens= around 2 usd

ok you get the point.

now listen to these: a nice car: 5,000 L$ ( lindens )

a small sim: around 100 usd a month

a whole sim can be around 200 usd a month

some sims in auction go around 3,500 usd!

things will cost a lot of L in sl!

and... if you dont pay anything/ dont give credit card there is around a 80 % chance your account will be TERMINATED! even if you have like 1,000 L in your account as long if you dont give your credit card and pay linden labs money every month SAY GOOD BYE TO YOUR ACCOUNT! EVEN IF YOU DIDN'T DO ANYTHING THEY DONT CARE ABOUT YOU! and it will show... believe me! it has happened to me TWO times and now im done with sl i have lost way too much money, time and friends to play that anymore. i highly, highly! say NEVER think about playing these game! dont even download it! pls for your sake

"This is not a game this is a social network."

May 20, 2008  |  By Dango517

 |  Version: Second Life 1.17.0.12

Pros

Perhaps one of the best ways to social network on the net. Allows for group activity and conferencing. You can do things with those you chat with. A great place to explore. SL is truly a "virtual world".

Cons

There are some problems with the technical working of this system, thou these have been improving, SL is well worth putting up with these sometimes annoying minor glitches. An advanced graphics PC would be best, low end machines may have difficulties with SL. If your easily offended you better enable the parental controls on this virtual world.

"Be Careful..."

February 21, 2008  |  By kagedmunky

 |  Version: Second Life 1.17.0.12

Cons

This game is stupid. You have to pay real money to receive virtual dollars?!? Um, no. That's the rip off of the century!

Be careful what you do in the "virtual world". That is if you can find anything worth doing in there! I got a Trojan downloader! Yippee! A gift horse! Just what I always wanted! You get so much more free of charge with SecondLife!

"Highly unstable and plenty of bugs"

December 18, 2007  |  By DarqueWolf

 |  Version: Second Life 1.17.0.12

Pros

Excellent graphics and smooth playability.

Cons

Freezes frequently and despite high end hardware and software continues to do so, this needs ALOT of work, great premise and idea but no point in DLing a game or virtual chat client that refuses to work.

"Fun and addictive despite its flaws"

December 15, 2007  |  By dkazona

 |  Version: Second Life 1.17.0.12

Pros

There's alot of diversity in this game, and if you got a system that can run it all well enough, you can do pretty much anything you can think of, an be anyone you want. Whether you want to spend your time building or scripting, living a virtual life in a mediaval city, or spend your time fighting with pistols, rifles, whatever, you can do it. Simply put, if you can think of it, and are willing to invest the time in it, you can do it.

Cons

The game has a pretty steep learning curve, especially if you're looking to delve deeper into it. While you can certainly build just about anything you want, or create any kind of script you'd like, it'll take an honest effort to actually learn all the necessary skills. Another factor to take into account is that this game really can suck your wallet dry--your first account is completely free, but buying items in-game costs L$ (Linden dollars), which you can either try to earn in the game, or buy through an exchange website. Since most jobs in the game aren't exactly high paid, and buying L$ is extremely easy, it's very tempting, and very easy to blow all your money on it.
